Not a bean. :(

Since the official announcement, all has gone quiet on the Lucasarts Front. There is not even an 'official site', just the announcement page with the trailer here.

I think it is in a very early stage of development, and there is probably not a great deal available yet to show us. It has only been sbout six weeks, after all, since E3 ended, and the title is not scheduled for release until summer 2004 (I expect that date to slip, and for the X-Box version to be released first, which is a growing trend).

We'll just have to be patient for a while. :)

Well since there devolping it on an advanced/updated version of the Unreal Engine which can do some amazing stuff, it won't be untill December or Sometime 2004 that we will get some serious info about this game, im sure the screenshots will be the greatest FPS SW game ever ;)

YES! THERE'S THE BUILDING! ATTACK!

*Hundreds of angry, impatient geeks swarm the building and begin breaking into the offices, holding hapless, terrified game-designers at gunpoint and ordering them to work faster*

YES! MY PLAN IS COMING TO FRUITION! GAH HA HA HA HA HA!

Fine. I want a mode where you and your team of commandos can storm the offices of Lucasarts and hold all the programmers at gunpoint!

You have to hold them for ten minutes, while fighting off FBI agents trying to get to the big power strip that's keeping all the computers in the office running!

GAH HA HA HA HA!

Seriously, it would be pretty funny if they actually added a mode like that.

Will there be an MP mode in CC then?

Well, the problem is that no one knows very much about the game at this point. Here is the official announcement again...

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – May 13, 2003 – LucasArts today announced development is underway on Star Wars: Republic Commando (working title), a dark and intense first-person shooter for the Xbox™ video game system and PC. The game will utilize an enhanced version of the acclaimed Unreal engine technology.

Expected for release summer 2004, Star Wars: Republic Commando will present a dramatic military-style action experience from the point-of-view of an elite squad member of a Republic Special Operations unit. Players will step into the role of a Commando performing precision operations deep behind enemy lines in this brutally realistic Star Wars combat experience.

Make of that what you will.

Personally, I would assume there will be an MP mode. After all, the Unreal engine supports it, and it would be a bit pointless not including MP, considering the number of people who would want to play online with a Star Wars FPS. After the debacle with Unreal II...I hope a lot of developers have learned a lesson or two about not supporting MP with particular franchises.

I like the wording of the announcement, anyway. Dark, intense, brutal... are all very promising hints at the style they are hoping to achieve. Of course, that could be subject to change, but I have a feeling this title will be aiming for gritty and hectic combat.

My own hopes for the game include...

- Very good team AI in SP...and a very easy and intuitive system to issue commands to your team-mates. If you can think back to Half Life: Opposing Force, I like the way that worked, mostly...but it could be expanded so that you could set up defaults for each character, like team-mate A is aggressive, team-mate B is assigned to protect your back at all times, etc. I suppose that sounds a bit more like the team-bot matches in UT, which is actually no bad thing.

- A wide range of weapons, both blasters and explosives.

- Class-based play possibilities - it would be nice to be able to select a class for your characer in SP, like demolition, sniper, etc., and adjust your weapon-skills accordingly. Then again, maybe that would be more suited to MP.

- a limited weapons loadout, considering you'll have team-mates to back you up.

- A good 'selectable mission' format, like we're going to see in JA.

- no game over screens if you fail a mission (unless you die). It would be great if you had to work through some missions with fewer team-mates, because you allowed some to die...

- some solo missions - team-based play is all well and good, but I hope there's a good mix so you can go solo and tackle some situations without any backup.

- Vehicles. I'd love to get flown to a start point aboard a troop transport, hit the ground running under intense fire, and set up a defensive perimeter.

- A wide range of mission objectives, from information extraction to rescues, from escorting a VIP to tackling some kind of insurrection on a planet. It would also be a nice twist to have to save some of your captured team-mates. :)

Those are just a few thoughts. The game will probably be nothing like that...but at times like these you have to have a mad fling now and then...

I think they could have some form of blood in a this game. It would only be something like green goo for the geonosians, but I think that would be acceptable. I'm pretty sure they were all gooey when they got slashed in the droid foundary in AOTC. I don't think we will ever see red blood in a star wars game, unless it was modded.
