Yufster
We've all probably wanted the adventure genre back for ages now. Well it's coming back, with style!... Is what I want to say, and might indeed be saying in a little while. Jane Jenson, creator of the fantastic Gabriel Knight adventure games, is currently working on a new series of Adventure Games with Dreamcatcher. Dreamcatcher have opened a branch of their company specifically for Adventure Games, "The Adventure Company", and so have high hopes for their new series and hopefully, series to come. Loads of great news! Not only is the Genre going to get some much needed CPR, but I'm delighted to hear that it's by a female! I've organised a project for Fourth Year in school, next term, where a bunch of us are going to be encouraging females to enter the computers industry. It's a fantastic industry, especially the games part, and you get all the free coffee you can drink. So for me, that's three whole great pieces of news as follows: 1. New Adventure SERIES in the making! 2. New Adventure-Dedicated COMPANY, MADE! 3. A GIRL is gonna (hopefully) revive Adventure Games! (To some extent) Imagine, just imagine, if Adventure Games became mainstream again. At least somebody is attempting it! I think her page is http://www.janejenson.com and I'm just about to send her fanmail. This could totally bring back 256 colours! Er, I mean, Adventure Games! Remi
The whole "oh adventures are dead!" has been going on for more than five years and I never bought it. Granted, the amount of releases slowed down for a while there, but they were never really gone. Jane Jensen coming back is certainly good news though, and Sam & Max 2, Broken Sword 3 and The Longest Journey 2 have lot of potential. (so do Syberia 2 and Full Throttle 2 I guess, but I'm not 100% sure how good either of 'em will be ) It'll be interesting to see if these games will sell well and reach a larger mainstream audience. Yufster
Sorry, I don't believe they're dead either, it's just easier than say, "Adventure Games are coming Back from being dormant for a small while with only a few releases"... ;D But I forgot all those too! Wow!!!!! This is sooo cool, an entire bunch of Adventure games are being released!!! :D I was talking to a guy who'd been to E3 and thought that Sam and Max II looked absolutely the BOMB, and he's hard to impress. He was set against it being in 3D and all but apparently it really kicks ass. hole.

Joshi
Sam N Max 2 and Full throttle 2 both use the mouse as a means of moving charcters around. That's probably the best news I've heard so far, but this whole adventure games coming back thing, is just great. What I would love is a funny adventure game though, while BS and Syberia were good, funny would just be great.

Cutthroat_Nick
No, seriously, your asleep- WWAAKKEE UUPP!! Adventure games are highly unlikely to come back as they don't appeal to a great majority of the public .
Alia
Why must you be such a die-hard pessimist? How can you say that!?
Joshi
Youre just afraid to use a mouse aren't you? Play FT2 and SNM2 and then tell me if you think adventure games are dying (I can't say if you will or not cause they're not out yet, but when they do, then we can be sure whether or not adventure games are dead)
drea
Oh, the topic title is so great. I think it'll come back eventually...right now all the super action action packed x 2 games with hot hot graphics that are so real they'll burn you out of your seat...I'm pretty sure it doesn't appeal to everyone. I'm one of those! I really just want games that have a sense of humor..only one game in recent years has pulled that off with some style and that would be Grand Theft Auto. Adventure games though, they're a whole big chunk of gaming...they will definitely make a comeback, small or big!
Gabez
I can't imagine adventure games ever becoming number one genre again, but they're far from dead. Just look at what's currently in production.
Guybrush122
A whole slew of adventure games are in production and coming out; there will always be the people who love thinking to get through a game. And though I dont think Adventure games will be in the mainstream again, I think they'll seriously be revived. I think FT2 was cancelled or delayed. But we still have SM2, The Longest Journy 2, the possibility of MI5, Fahrenheit, Jane Jenson's new stuff, BS3, Runaway, AND boatloads of adventure game puzzle packed action games which willl get hardcore gore fans into the thinking state of mind. Joshi
BS3 and Runaway are our most promising at the moment. BS3 because it's a broken sword game. Nuff said. And Runaway, because it has the kind of cartoony style of COMI which everyone loves and isn't so much 3D (or not at all, i don't really know)
