Surfnshannon
My dad bought a computer game to play. So, I installed it and now it will play but the colors are all jacked up. It looks like technicolor or like I'm high or something because it is all neon. The game is Tropico 2. I've installed the latest version of direct X etc. I can't seem to find the problem. Any suggestions? Video card sucks? I think he has a ATI Rage or something. Not sure.
RoguePhotonic
Sounds like someone got a magnet to close to your monitor
Tesla
Have you tried configuring the in game video settings Maybe it is a magnet....
HertogJan
Ati Rage?? It must be a pretty old card, there's a chance THAT's the problem!! Oh and f*cked up textures/colors usually mean there's some sort of driver problem! You should install the latest drivers for your videocard... Surfnshannon
The game loads up just fine at first. It flashes a couple stills etc. Then when the game starts it is almost like a little video. That's when it goes Retro. You can get into the game fine...but where you would use the tools to play its also retro. You can't read them or see what they are because they are hot pink and yellow. It has done this to another game he has. How do I install the latest drivers. I don't really know how to do that. Do I just go to control panel and then go to system. But then what. How do I uninstall the old and replace with the new?
BCanr2d2
Reminds me of what Unreal Tournament used to do to my Geforce256. It placed green around every 3D rendered object, such as the player or guns... I'd check if you use a program to alter your settings, make sure they are something alot closer to default. BongoBob
Also, try switching the colors from 32-bit to 16 and what-not. That usually works for me. And it does sound like a magnet, but it seems like it would do it all the time.
Surfnshannon
but if it was a magnet wouldn't everything be all retro? Its just the video part in the game? I tried switching the colors around in the control panel. Didn't work (.
Samuel Dravis
Why don't you just buy a new video card? Look at pricewatch.com. I saw the Radeon 9600 128mb is around $120 USD. A lot of others are cheaper though.
Surfnshannon
I'm just afraid that I'd get a new card and then it would either make things worse or not fix it at all. My dad is already upset that he's boughten two games that he can't return and he can't play them on his computer either.
coupes.
Did you try updating the drivers, I understand the video card is kinda old, so the drivers they provide you with are also likely to be pretty old. I don't think a magnet could be the cause to your problem, if it were you could just do a degauss to settle the problem. Also have a look at the game's troubleshooting files, it usually lists the compatible video cards, OS and such.
Surfnshannon
Thanks - however the game came with no troubleshooting. I'm going to have to go to their website, but gamesites are blocked at my work. I'm going to try and update the old ass drivers. hopefully that will help. Agen
Meh, My friends have ATI rages and they work really well. I wouldn't think that is your problem unless all games go wonky... Still, there's no harm in updating drivers (the card is decently aged now so the drivers won't be that news )
