Guybrush122
"Emo" refers to a type of emotional music. Emo bands include The Ataris, Dashboard Confessional, Brand New, Simple Plan, etc etc. An "emo kid" is someone who listens to this type of music while being, themselves, overly emotional and melodramatic. Just listen to any Dashboard or AFI lyrics, "I wanna diiieee, I hate my liiiifeee, I miss youuuu, I made an entire CD for yoooouuuu, I'm slitting my wrisssstttss, while playing crappy acoustic guitttarrrr" This sums up an "emo kid". A melodramatic person that is pretty much defined by their music. Think the most OVERLY sensitive you can get without being stereotypically gay. Bingo. murta
^ What he said was crap Emo is a derivative genre of punk. It's now a term thrown around at most acoustic acts, despite emo originally (and still today) being a slightly different style of punk. Kind of like melodic punk-rock with indie influences. Emo kids tend to all dress the same, very few are actually over sensitive but close-minded poser-punk fans might take this blanket opinion since they have little understanding of the genre
Ernil
From my long 16 years of life, I have dearly grown tired of Emo kids. Once upon a time, I was a punkrocker. Those days took me across WAY too many emo kids. But i suppose it would be a decent way of life.

I grew up in the industrial scene, which is pretty much dead in the water at the moment, because most of it's core pioneers have all overdosed, or gave up and started making music totally unrelated to the genre itself. For example Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) has become so absorbed in self pitty, that it takes him 6-7 years to put out a crappy album. Some of these bands include: Ministry (status: still active) Skinny Puppy (status: defunct) Frontline Assembly (status: defunct) Front 242 (status: pending) Laibach (status: pending) KMFDM (status: active) Leatherstrip (status: gone goth!) I was the vocalist in an insdustrial outfit we called "Vent" in order to vent off our frustrations. For all sakes and purposes, it worked. I still listen to some of that stuff occasionally, but not as often as I used too. I guess people do change over the years. Here is an old promo poster I made with some press photos and some stone age software. I'm the guy squatting down with the clove in my mouth.
