txa1265
Originally posted by Tyrion You know, I just noticed something. It's been roughly 3-4 months since Kotor came out on x-box. What could they have done in those months? They could've added a few more worlds, or actually add a toolset. God, a toolset. Then we could have a ton of modules, tons of different star wars roleplaying scenarios created by fans.. You assume an awful lot, don't you. I know you're very young, but what can actually be done in a few months - especially at the end of a game's development cycle - is much less than you think. Especially on games of this size and scope. The time difference of the releases is based on getting the code to a point, and then choosing which platform to get 'release-ready'. They chose X-Box. So since July, they have had to go back and get the PC code polished, deal with bugs found from the XBox release, and make sure that the PC performance and controls all worked as planned - extensive QA takes a long time on a large game. They *did* put in new areas, items and aliens, but doing much more than that would have required a huge effort - one that would have started back from basic coding and had to work all the way through. As for a toolkit, that is unfortunate, but I'm sure LucasArts had something to do with that. Mike

Maybe if they had worked the toolset into the code from the very beginning(Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights comes to mind) then that could happen. As a matter of fact, isnt Kotor based off the Auroa engine? If it is, then they have a ton of coding knowledge from Neverwinter Nights. I know, small chance that they added it. Still, it'll be a first for Bioware to not put in a toolset for a RPG game. (By the way, I was mainly talking about toolset inclusion in Star Wars Knights. I know bigger coding will probably take longer to include.)

It is unfortunate that it seems some sort of LucasArts strategy not to enable 3rd party modding. Mike
