ILF (International Lucas Forum)

Recommended Posts

this morning I had the opportunity to talk to a LF member through MSN messenger. The experience was the best, and is so every time I get to talk in real time (or rather type) in real time with any Lucas Forums member, it helps you actually develope a sence of 'knowing' the face behind the user name and avitar. And as I spoke with this person who comes from Denmark; I had to admit that I was not very knowledgeable in regards to his Scandinavian heritage. And this got me thinking, the entire LF community is made up of members from all over the globe, so what about having an ILF or "International Lucas Forum"

and these are my ideas on this concept.

Adminstrators (if it is possible, on the lucas forums page which has links to Star Wars to Grim Fandango to Monkey Island etc, could the forums make a new link to my proposed ILF.

This ILF would be a forum all of itself comprised of sections not entitled, The Harbor, The Cantina, Yoda's Swamp, The Blue Casket etc... but instead ILF UK, ILF USA, ILF Australia, ILF DENMARK, ILF Norway .....

these forum communities inside the ILF would be regulated by several LF members from their repective countries. for example for the ILF UK, forum members leXX, Siv and Tall Guy could be the ILF UK mods. (plus each international would have an admin)

now the purpose and function of the ILF would be three fold.

(1) each ILF forum would be a place where people from the same country could meet and network with each other, so if you were a n00b to the LF community, for example you are from Norway, you could find out who else is from Norway, and you and your fellow country members could PM and chat outside the forums.

(2)each internation LF would be a resource center for other forum members. examples would be; you have a school project about New Zealand, or you and your family are planning to vacation in Scotland. the mods and members of each internation lucas forum could give you valuable information about hteir country and culture, things which even enclyclopedias and travel guides over look.

(3) and finally each ILF could be a place where forum members could talk proudly about their culture and heritage; and LF members from other cultures and heritages could help each other really understand each other better, and hopefully avoid misssunderstandings which sometimes occur due to a language barrier.

*NOW REALLY INPORTANT*

just as the Senate Chambers is a very serious no monkey business forum, so to would the ILF. racial slurs, or jokes, or stereo types or culture bashing would not be tolerated.

also members would have to refrain from posting in their own language online, because no one wants to feel like someone is talking about them behind their back and right in front of their face.

anyhow if my idea holds any merit, please consider it. I don't know if it is possible or if it has been suguested before, but I think it could be a great way of really getting to know your fellow LF members.

Not nescarily. You might travel over to different forums for different regions to meet new member.s ;)

I dunno, I think we'd need a forum for every country but that isn't going to happen so we suddenly have forums for all the major countries, UK, USA, Autralia and so on and then some guy from bulgaria comes along and finds there isn't a forum for him and feels a little unwanted. Plus, we can't compensated for all the existuing forums members, so we suddenly find a slowly growing minority group of people with no 'place' to do what we as major nations do which is talk amongst ourselve. instead they have to either not talk in the international forums or talk in a country which isn't theirs and suddenl;y feel they'r not getting the full experiance.

Now of course, this is resolved slightly by having an "all other countries" forums where people who can't find their country make a thread for theirs in there, but it's still slightly unfair.

Then again, it would be great, we'd get a chance to talk to people about current events in our country and talk about things that only we'd know about (like british TV). I'm not disueding you any, i'm just listing the pro's and cons of your idea (which the admins are basically gonna do anyway to decide if they wanna do this). as everything has it's good points and bad points. you've already listed the good, i'm just filling in the blanks.

LF already has enough adverts and system resources focused on important areas, adding something big like this will just be a waste. Think of it from the admins view, they have to balance out what goes where, what priorities are greater than others. Like Rhett said, sounds just like a forum for a forum. If I want to go meet other Australians I'd join an Australian forum on some Australian site... :dozey:

Sounds like segregation to me :\

It's a nice idea, but you couldn't patrol it close enough to not let by racial slurs, sterotypes, etc. There are people who like to share their thoughts, regardless of the appropriateness of the matter...

I mean, you can still do these kind of threads in the off-topic areas. I know if one was made in the Swamp, if the author so chose, they could request it to be monitored heavily, as to avoid any trouble. I'd watch it.

And again, this is LucasForums, too...main purpose is the games. :D

I hope Zoom is proud of me....^_^
