Force Power in MP Nerfed? Especially Lightside

The Count

Recommended Posts

I've beem playing Multiplayer quite alot recently and I have noticed that the multiplayer force powers are absolutely horrid and very weak especially Absorb, Protect, Grip, Drain and Mind Trick; its no fun at all playing on the lightside and whats worse is the Mana recharges at a really low rate. The Saber Throw and Push and Pull are rubbish aswell what is with this? The Force Powers are implemented wonderfully in Single Player; why are they so crap in MP; all it seems to be is lightning spam in MP now.

I wouldn't mind having the Mana recharge so low if the powers were actually powerful.

I can't stand playing MP because of this! Anyone else agree; wish to shed some light on this?

As was said, mana regen time is dependent on the admin's settings. Though, at the default it should be the same as it was in JK2 1.04. Maybe you're used to playing on servers that have it set to 0 (ie: force powers become easily spammable).

Mind Trick is easier to see (the floating stars above a person's head). Absorb lets you see the blue glow on your end but the enemy only hears the sound until they attack you with the Force.

Protect is pretty much the same as before, although the effect looks a little prettier.

Drain is pretty much the same.

So what's the big deal?

Grip is a little weaker... you can't grip somebody around a corner and keep them out of sight so they can't counter it like you could in JK2, but otherwise it's about the same and still deadly for tossing people off cliffs and such.

I've heard just the opposite. People complaining that Saber Throw is too often spammed and too powerful. Are you using the 1.01 patch or what?

Maybe you're referring to the fact that a saber can be knocked to the ground? That is a neat feature (more like Single Player), but keep in mind all sabers can be knocked to the ground and not just during throws. It just forces you to be a little more careful and sneaky when using those moves.

A well timed Pull-Throw is powerful. A poorly timed one can leave you disamred!

Push and Pull are just as useful as before. Sure you can't do flip kicks anymore, but you can still Pull-Throw and you can still push people off cliffs and Pull their weapons away. They seem useful enough to me!

I wouldn't mind having the Mana recharge so low if the powers were actually powerful.

They're almost identical to how they were in JK2 1.04 except for a few minor tweaks. You're probably spoiled by forceregentime 0 servers. The default is 200 dude, and it was that way in JK2 as well!

Host your own server and make your own settings, then you will be happy. ; )

force just ruins ctf

See, I think it's just the opposite, Force makes it much more complex and interesting.

I play all weapons full force CTF when I can, and it's fun!

Using Seeing to keep tabs on people, Mind Trick to sneak around, speed/rage to run to/from with the flag.

Pushing/Gripping people off ledges, pulling weapons away, pushing back rockets, zapping people with lightning, yes!

And in CTF you can just let loose, you don't have to worry about some guy trying to duel you or what not. Everything for your team... victory or death!

Hm, I have to agree with Kurgan on this one. I don't have a clue what you're talking about when you say that the Force powers are weak. I think the only situation where it's not easy for dark siders to spam grip and lightning and stuff is when the mana rechaarge rate is FAST. I'm a hardcore light sider, and I use absorb and protect alot, I keep both set to level three. I have come across, as I have played, the fact that ti is MUCH harder to push dark side Jedi than it is to push light side Jedi. Perhaps because the dark side powers are almost entriely aggressive, and the light side ones are defensive. I find it most plausible to leave my little force scroll thingy on Force Absorb (you can scroll through your Force powers with Q & E, use them with F) and Absorb the lightning from the spammer, then hit F again oto deactivate Absorb, crack on the Force Speed, and f*ck him up before he gets enough mana to grip-whore me or something. Strategy like that comes with experience.

I dunno, there are some light siders that use absorb and mindtrick pretty effectively on vanilla servers. Being sneaky and invisible works well for those that choose to master it.

On the other side of the coin, some servers up the saber damage scale to 3 or higher and lower the force regentime. That combination creates an environment drastically different from the above.

It's a matter of setting by the server op and your preferences as a player as to where you play. Count, you should check out the Chop Shop servers.

Oh, I forgot to add that the mere presence of Jump and Speed sets this game head and shoulders above the common pack of FPS's in terms of gameplay.

Navigating the maps at high speeds and having a true "3-D" view of the game world and having to strategize in three dimensions makes it quite challenging and fun.

So sure, play NF, it's a good way to learn basic FPS skills and how to handle the saber, but eventually you should learn FF. It's a whole new game and really gets the blood flowing (at least IMHO).

I suppose some people like a nice slow, relaxing duel (I can't say that I don't either once in awhile).

; )

Force powers are... interesting to use in MP after playing SP. I quickly learned that spending Force points on Heal is a useless exercise: Spending 60% of your mana for 10HP isn't much vfm (value for mana).

I'm still working out how a single saber can overcome a saberstaff. >.<

Still, some interesting comments have been made in this thread.

I completely agree with Kurgan. I used to shy away from Force servers because I was very often defeated easily in those games. Then one day, I decided to try it again. Played as Light Sider, had absorb at full, as well as various other powers...

Quite frankly, it was one of the best games I've ever had. It was saber-only, but it only made things more interesting. The duels were more fast-paced, I had to quickly manage my mana, making sure that I wasn't using Absorb unnecesarilly, pushing people away from me when they try to grip me, making sure that I could absorb a powerful lightning burst, flips off the wall, Force Jumping in the air to meet other duelists a few meters above the ground... summed up, such experiences are incredible.

Yes, pull + throw is the biggest load of crap I ever seen. Just shows how people go to such a low level that they take advantage of this kind of stuff just to win.

Eh, what? I'm not particularly fond of it, but I don't see how it is "low" if others do. It was in JO, and it wasn't removed, so what is the problem in JA? Everything that is allowed by the rules should be usable without people whining about it.

Besides, it isn't like it is a 1-hit kill or anything. If people want to use up force power on it, by all means as far as I'm concerned...

The onlything that is "low" is people complaining that others use moves that they don't personally like. If you don't want to use it, fine, but don't demand that everyone else follow your rules...

Play the game how you want. I am just stating my opinion, and that opinion is that pull + throw is pretty darn immature. Just ruins the whole fun of a game. It makes me so angry. Wow, let's all start pull + throwing so we can all become players who like to ruin other peoples gaming experiences! ;)

I won't post anything more on this matter, seeing as it will probably get me into some sort of flame fest or similar. bye bye, enjoy your game.

I can kinda see Master Williams point: Why spam the same move over and over again? For one thing it does make the game boring, and as Rad Blackrose said it can leave the user very vulnerable. Especially if they're spamming the move over and over again. If you're a lightsider just chuck Absorb up when they come within Pull range.

Although I have noticed that Push and Pull can still affect you with Absorb up... :animelol:

Think of it this way: The more they spam a certain move, the more practice it gives you to counter it. ;P

Edit: Corrected effect/affect
