Siege Opinions...

ooh boy the nr server :) it has been long since I played it though, but I love it..Was immediately addicted when JA come out and even made 3 guides (one for each map) for siege..ah good times, you know i'll start playing it more

 

I always liked team games like this (eg Enemy Territory) and playing it in my fav game is just splendid..though I just hate it when ppl don't care about balance and join the winning team, it ruins the game for everyone and is just pathetic (why didn't they deliver it with a team balance option :o )

The server can turn on a team balance thing, i think, so if say imperial has 4, and rebel has 3, you have to join rebel.

 

Yeah, siege is good, except for the lag. And the lack of maps. Im planning on making a siege map, but.. Ive read what Raven said.. and I truthfully dont understand all of it. But then again, its been a while since ive read it. I know a mapper, who has spoken about a siege map for a while, i think hes on a team or something, but i cant be sure. :) lets hope its good.

Siege needs better support in three fields right now:

 

1.) Networking

2.) Map development

3.) Interface development

 

In regards to three, since there's been so much bitching about number one...

 

Personally, I thought the "Objectives" screen was attrocious compared to games such as Counter-Strike, TFC, et al, who have a much simpler, much less problematic interface. I'd reroute some of the commands to Siege-Mode-only-keybinds. For example, one key pops up the objectives, another pops up a menu giving you a class selection, etc. None of these should interfere with your gameplay (allow for varying degrees of transparency, make it not obstruct the entire screen. Hell, enable the datapad). Not only will this allow you to do this on the fly, but it makes it easier for people looking to hop right in and not have to worry about having to set up certain things.

Well in terms of networking, there isnt much that can be done except using a fast server and most people, if not all, using broadband connections.

 

And there WAS a stargate siege map in production, but even with the announcement on JK.net, not enough people seemed interested to keep it going, so it was scrapped and is being converted to FFA/CTF which will have a new vehicle (death glider) plus a working, Dialing Stargate, gate travel, and working transporter rings.

 

I personally am a big fan of Siege, and do wish there was more maps out that were Siege.

Siege: Best part of JA and (MP portion of) the series!

 

Of course it could stand some improvements, notably bot support and more maps!

 

It may sound extreme, but I felt the same way about Assault in UT. It's definately the most cool and fun, there just isn't enough of it! (I can't get enough of it)

And it has such VAST potential with the editing community for expansion, I hope we see some new Siege maps in 2004. If not, it's a real opportunity wasted. I mean we already saw the 1 million and 1 duel maps and saber packs for Jedi Outcast ported over, it's time for something team based, challenging and fun! And Star Wars fans can go nuts with it re-creating scenarios from the movies and EU.

 

Why wait for SW Battlefront (which we don't even know if it will have free editing or not) when we can do all that stuff right now in JA (For Free!)?

In an idea Siege mode is great, and I kinda like it sort of.. but what we got currently isn't very good.

I like playing objective team based games. They are the best for online teamplay.

I feel siege as compared to other FPS/online games with objective style playing is very unballanced and weak.

Has anyone here played TOW for MOH Spearhead?

Thats a fine example of well thought out game mode for objective based play.

Siege feels so umballanced and alot of my friends who play can't stand it and go back to playing BF1942 or RtcW ET or CoD or MOH and even bloody Counter Strike and tribes2.

As was mentioned by Rad....

The interface is bad to see your objectives.

You shouldn't feel lost looking for what needs to be done. Also the classes don't feel ballanced.

The gun weapons are very poor ( splash damage only?).

The Jedi feel useless.

I feel the game mode needs more modding or something to make it better.

It has so much it can be, but falls short.

Letting players have more options in this game mode would have been better.

I really don't think siege is as good as compared to other objective team games. The map shortage is another. This mixed with high lag... Most my buddies from JK2 complain that the siege mode doesn't have what they liked about this series or bought it in the first place. To play as a Jedi in a team style game online...Lightsaber, Force = fun.

It made me mad reading interviews from raven and they say they play Counter Strike alot...and then they give us this..(SOF2 had an objective mode) playing CS should have given them enough insight to develop a good objective based play mode with better game play.

I understand the push to get it out but sloppy game modes just make the game bad and turn players off the game. With poor hit detection the game just falls short.

Game play is everything...

^^ yes yes TOW was awsome the sub level was great and the hangars you have to open all good..

Also retrival game style as in Call of Duty would work well in JKA as the objectives are objects you escort to a safe location. Like docs to a truck or maps, feild radio's or battle plans ect. So you can use normal maps for the extra game type.

Siege is a good idea but needs some work.

I played siege on the MS3 server with xmod,

that made it more fun.

I would like to play siege as jedi like in TFFA or CTF.

I may be suprised at it being more fun.
