The_One Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I'm assuming you had pretty much everything backed up? If so, then a new hard drive isn't going to cost you much these days. I picked up my 120gig Western Digital a couple of months ago for £60, which isn't exactly bad If you have anything of value on your old drive, you could get it seen by a specialist - they might be able to restore the data for you. But this can be costly, and probably isn't worth it unless you really badly want something back.

Nerd_Annhilator Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 This is funny, Because once my computers HD was "skipping" This made a clicking sounds, and froze when it did. Mind you, the clicking noise only happened for about 30 seconds or so,
The_One Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 A "clicking" sound is a very common way for hard drives to indicate their death. It's actually happened to me before - hence the new HD purchase a few months ago. Basically, it's trying to find data, but can't - so it's scanning, and scanning, and abruptly stopping: the clicking. In the underground (well, not so underground) world of people who've lost hard drives, it is commonly referred to as the "click of death." And I think IG-64 has just found out why I don't suppose it's an IBM hard drive? They are most commonly associated with the death click.
manoman81 Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 wow. An exposed hd. Make sure that you get one that is covered. I can't trust anything like that. Western Dig puts out some awesome hds. At least you know what it is.

IG-64 Posted April 15, 2004 Author Posted April 15, 2004 Well, the pate.b virus has been eliminated, I got rid of the source in the registry and scanned the comp i'm on. I don't think the family comp got it, but i'm scanning it anyways. And it can't be on my comp because it's locked in that failed HD (I picked one myself ) G
