toms
i'm pretty sure you can already play some final fantasy games on mobile phones in japan. They had adverts for them on all the trains. Snes level console RPG games actually work REALLY well on mobile platforms, so i'm not surprised to see them being converted. Unfortuantely our phones in the UK (and rest of the world) are so much crummier than the j-phones that it will probably be ages before we can play such games. I'd have bought a cool j-phone (256Mb SD card, 2Megapix camera, 3g high speed email and internet access) if they worked anywhere outside of japan. Of course, what i am really waiting for is a port of chrono-trigger, which blows any FF you care to name out of the water... shame it isn't as well known. Astrotoy7
chrono trigger is cool, I can play it only on my pc through an emulator, as I gave up my chipped psx a long time ago.... still, ff9 is the ultimate for me.... mtfbwya

Master_Keralys
The obsession strikes again! Gah! No, those really look pretty awesome; the graphics are getting to the point where they're nearly photorealism. Should be awesome to play...

I saw a vid on FFXII and it seemed to reveal a little bit about their battle system unless it was some sort of mini game. http://streamingmovies.ign.com/ps2/article/515/515011/ffxii_051304_03_wmvlow.wmv?wu=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.gameboy.ign.com%2Fdownload.html%3Fmu%3D%3CURL%2F%3E I'm hoping that this isn't the system... I wish they'd stick to the classic systems they used

Astrotoy7
the battle system in that vid is the secondary battle system, more a of hack n slash mode not unlike kingdom hearts, in fact i think its called "dynamic battle mode" or something like that. If anything it looks fun. Its always interesting hearing people saying "We want the old ATB", werent FF1-9 enough ? With a series that has had so many 'sequels' change is inevitable. Thats why ffx-2 was so different, and for practical purposes, FFXI *needs* to be different. Im really enjoying the gameplay aspect of ffx-2, since ive resumed playing it recently, ive never had so much versatility in customising the characters attributes from turn to turn ! the only thing that is getting a little grating is the girly squeals and antics of Y/R, not necesarily P !, and the idiotic male characters.....rikku's bro needs to be strangled slowly..... but apart from that I *really* do enjoy the gameplay aspect of ff-x2, and FF CC and TA for that matter, I am really looking forward to FFXII, and as always in FF, I believe the story is central to whether the game is enjoyable in the long run... From a little trailer I'd seen, it looked like the aeons/guardian forces *might* be back, i hope so, i miss those crazy monsters/goddesses ! mtfbwya

toms
not really. Music companies already make more money from ringtones than cd sales. There are millions more mobiles out there than all the consoles combined. It makes sense to sell mobile games, i reckon it will become a huge market. And like the GBA they have a huge back catalogue of NES/SNES/Genesis/GBA games that will port over really well. I have a couple of zelda style games on my mobile and they are pretty cool. And of course j-phones are way more advanced than our phones.

Final Fantasy 1-6 were all on made for the NES/SNES, porting them over is no huge thing, technically. If you've seen a summary of everything that was shown at E3, youd see that mobiles are considered by developers as a platform on their own right. And, just like toms said, nowhere near as many ppl have xbox's, ps2s or gc's compared to mobile phones..... mtfbwya

FF1, FF4, and FF6 to GBA or cell phones. Think of how much of a killing they would make, even though I wouldn't try 4 and 6 on cell phones... I liked the old ones but the new ones but the new ones are just.. Boring. FF7 was the best one out IMO, it had great graphics and lovely cutscenes. Also a nice story! To make money of course. There's still alot of FF fans who enjoy the new ones as well. It's kinda like the never-ending Bond series Although I would love to see an original title from Square like when they brought in Chrono Trig in SNES. But I'm still having nightmeres over my 20 mintues of playing the monstrosity of X-2 Hopefully they don't mess up XII...

MuRaSaMuNe
Really? The only Square games I've played outside of FF were the Chrono Series, Xenogears, Drakengard and Super Mario RPG. Although I remember hearing they made a racing game of some sort
