You know, I just thought of something. What exactly was the One Ring do? I mean, obviously, it corrupts lesser minds, but really, what does it do? What kind of power does it grant. Does it give unlimited power, or is Sauron just a sucker for gold. Like Mr. T

It grants it's user extreme powers...mostly the ability to control people. Frodo mentioned once in the book that if he were to put on the ring he could command Gollum to do anything and he would do it.
