tk102 Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 Hey! wtf is up with all the errors trying to load advertisements every time I go into user control panel? I know this isn't on topic, but ANNOYING is an understatement.
svösh Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 Agreed Tk it’s bad enough getting our mail box’s filled with this crap , and pop up’s an epidemic on the internet, but this is too much. Please change to a reliable add server, if we have to look at these useless things in the first place. Many of my pm have not been sent due to this. ANNOYING is definitely an understatement svösh
mgnails Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 Its not just the user CP but it seems most of the timeon on LF i get a statusbar saying how its loading that gorilla ads crap. It never opens a site though so I assume its downloading some adware or spyware to my computer. Or at least trying. I have a pretty good firewall so nothing much really gets in here. But I indefinately second that.
FiEND_138 Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 ^^^ Agrees. I was getting bombarded by trojan laced adware popups everytime I came to this board until a week ago when I installed firefox. *Hugs firefox. Good firefox *
Darth Khasei Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 I wondered if I was the only one under the assault from the spammers:D
J'ando Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 Oh and guys watch out for the very malicious piece of ad/spy/trojan-ware called Second Thought. It self-installs on your comp and takes a spy-ware remover and an anti-virus to get rid of. Meanwhile it downloads lots and lots of other spy-ware and ad-ware AFTER installing a self-proclaimed spy-ware remover called "Virtual Bouncer" that every time you boot up informs you that it's found a parasite and asks if you would like to remove it. Clicking "No" about 5-6 times will eventually get rid of it. For now. If you click "Yes" you're taken to a registration form where they want you to pay for it to remove phony viruses and ad-ware... voila, welcome to the world of serious scams.
Ajunta Pall Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 *hugs Google Tool-Bar and AVG Anti-Virus* We loves them we does, Precioussss... We don't ever wants them to go... Alright, then. "hugs".
tk102 Posted June 28, 2004 Author Posted June 28, 2004 Along the lines of this: CERT recommends that Explorer users consider other browsers that are not affected ... such as Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape and Opera. Mac, Linux and other non-Windows operating systems are immune from this attack. (ariticle from Washington Post) I use Netscape 7.1 and am still plagued by ads.gorillanation.com even with Zone Alarm Pro. For kicks, I downloaded Firefox, which has the same Mozilla core and still had problems. I also hereby forbid further use of the word huggles anywhere on this forum.
Darth333 Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 How ironic. I am using the evil and most hated IE right now and I don't have any such problems
Lorden Darkblade Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 *Looks to MyIE2 and Norton Internet Security and smiles* Well I'm not having any problems
Doom_Dealer Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 **Looks at all my Norton System Programs, my google toolbar, my Firefox program and my adaware program and my cookie cleaners and all the rest. Then looks at the most buggered computer i ever have had and regretfully realise i have to wipe the whole thing clean and start again ** Lifes a bitch, ay?
tk102 Posted June 28, 2004 Author Posted June 28, 2004 I took a look at the page source of the user control panel and found this bit of javascript: <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- var random = Math.floor(Math.random() * 1000000000), cdate = new Date(); document.write('<iframe src="http://ads.gorillanation.com/code?pid=2892&gid=1&oin=0&rto=&rid=' + random + '&dom=' + cdate.getDate() + '&dow=' + cdate.getDay() + '&hod=' + cdate.getHours() + '" frameborder="0" vspace="0" hspace="0" width="468" height="60" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no">'); document.write('<a href="http://ads.gorillanation.com/default_reference?pid=2892&gid=1" target="_top"> <img src="http://ads.gorillanation.com/default_image?pid=2892&gid=1" border="0"></a>'); document.write('</iframe>'); // --> </script> So if you have javascript disabled, you won't get the horrible "Alert: The connection was refused when attempting to contact ads.gorillanation.com" message. Those of you who aren't getting the message but have javascript enabled are receiving the ads and are getting tracked by gorillanation. I don't care about that so much as repeating errors in loading the pages.
BountyHUNTER12 Posted June 28, 2004 Posted June 28, 2004 I use Ad-aware and I also manually remove somethings but i mostly use Ad-Aware to throw out the trash. Yes I know how all of you feel I once had 3 or 4 Trojans on my PC!! But I easily removed 'em.
