PR-0927
Heh, I figured out the wireframe view a while back. TK241 is from PC Game Mods. The poly count isn't abused, believe me. I sent it to KOTOMRJay to finish, but he has been quite busy, going on business trips, etc. So, yes this thread is basically dead.
tFighterPilot
The polycount in the wings and cockpit is way higher than it should. Go to Star Wars: Battlefront official website, there go to gameplay, vehicles, separatists, droid starfighter. It shows the wireframe at the right of the screen. Observe it. Trent14
Ok yeah hi. I'm just signed up at lucas to reply to this forum. I am not the best model but for games I'm good. You use WAAAAY to many polys for that low LOD model. For the cockpit, try making a geosphere with a low number of segments, then useing non-uniform scaling to squash it. For the little disk use a cylinder, and I don't know if GMAX has the chamfer modifier so if doesn't add 2 extra height segs and bend them in to make it curvish. If it has a chamfer then use that. The wings, easy. Make one cylinder. Then move the sides in so it forms like a quarter pipe. Make sure its thin. Then taper the wing so in the back its bigger. Then edit the front to make the little square. Should be no more than 1500 polys right there. Or face count if you prefer, same difference. Then you can add small cylinders in the wing area to look like hydric lifts or wires, if you want to. But copy the wing and rotate it 4 times. And I can't tell you how many times I have seen this. Meshsmooth is not an option for games unless, UNLESS everyone playing it is running of a 3.0 GHz or higher. Even then it depends on the game. If you look at the lucas art models, no mesh smooth. none. Why? because if you had 30 storm troopers firing at you, and they were mesh smoothed. Say bye bye graphics card as you smell burning plasic. Move the vertices to make it look smooth, and in areas where its straight don't use any verts. The disc of the droid star fighter is straight on yours but there are so many verts. AAGG. Ok yeah thats my 2 cents. Flame me, ban me, say i suck, say i rock, follow my advice or discard it I don't care. Just one thing I strongly advice is to go to 3d-palace.com and post your model there and ask for suggestions. They will be nice and tell you how things might be done. PR-0927
O.K., well, due to request, I lowered the poly count in the wings. This is now the finished version, and it has been sent to C2. Here are two pictures:

tFighterPilot
Did you use the MultiRes modfier to do it? Cuz it sure as heck looks like it.
PR-0927
Umm, no, LOL!! I used the "Optimize" option... And, does anyone know where to get a .3ds exporter for GMAX? C2 is gonna finish off the Droid Starfighter, and then tFighterPilot is gonna turn it into a vehicle, but C2 needs to be able to open it, as he uses Milkshape. Should I export it as a certain other thing for Milkshape, like a .md3? Thanx, Zappa_0.
Zappa_0
majin if you can get me the .glm and .gla files, I can send them to my friend to make it into a vehicle along with my stuff. Let me know what u wanna do!
tFighterPilot
glm I cuold understand, there's a glm exporter but gla? glm and gla are created when compiling the xsi... Send it to me as any kind of file you can export (not .gmax of course)
PR-0927
Well, I gave it to C2 as a .md3, as he uses Milkshape, and Milkshape can't use .gmax files. He should be able to turn it into a .3ds for you tFighterPilot. Zappa_0, sorry, but all jobs besides a skinner have been taken, but I wanted to know if Scouttrooper would help me with skinning, he is an awesome skinner. You could send it to me. 3ds is only one of the types of files 3D Studio Max can import. I can import md3 also.
PR-0927
Hmm, well, C2 has to do the other stuff, like QVW Mapping, then he can turn it into a .3ds, and I'll send it to you, so you could turn it into a vehicle model for JA. I'm pretty sure 3DS MAX can't open .gmax files. Well, now it is time to look for a skinner. I'll PM Scouttrooper first.
PR-0927
Thanx man!! I'll send you the skin ASAP, but C2 still hasn't responded to my last e-mail asking on the progress...maybe he's busy, on vacation, or has school (if he isn't an adult, I'm not...). I'll e-mail you as soon as possible for the skinning to be completed.

PR-0927
Hooray!! C2 isn't able to do it... So, he told me about LithUnwrap...and I am completely lost... Here is what I need help in: From GMAX (Tempest, the .md3 exporter), I exported it...but, I wasn't sure how it had to face...like, the angle and stuff. Then, I opened up the .md3 in LithUnwrap, and got lost immediately. What do I do? It looks like a big mess of lines and vertices, and my tags didn't go with it!! It can QVW Map it to...a .bmp file...yet, I want to use .jpg's, not .bmps (in game, etc.). I also don't know how to QVW Map it, what all the lines are, or from where...or how to change the angle!! I tried reading tutorials, but they made no sense, and nothing helped for a .md3 file...or anything, I was confused!! Could someone please tell me how to do it? I have two models to do, by the way...and, I'd like to get them finished ASAP!! Actually, that was part of an e-mail sent to C2, and I edited it so it applied to anyone that could help!! I am a total noob to this, please baby me and go step by step, LOL!! I'd very much appreciate any help, ASAP!! I have been waiting for my models to get completed for around half a year now, and I'm tired of waiting!! It'll only be done if someone can help me with this!! Then, I'll send it to tFighterPilot to turn into a vehicle for JA!! HELP ME!! Thanx!!
