Um, i dont think that number of disks are confirmed, if D3 was at least 4 GB, it would have at least 5 or 6 disks.

EDIT: YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN FOOLED!!! Take a closer look at discs number 11 and 12 or compare color in both pics, it was all photoshoped by the same guy which HL2 DVD casing i posted, trust me.

I know what you mean man. The article mentioned that it was too costly to release a DVD version with it or something... I figured using 1 DVD would be cheaper than 4 CDs.

One DVD-ROM would be just a little bit more, if not less than three to six CD-ROMs.

One other fact about games not being DVD-ROMs is (suprisingly) there is a lot of people who don't even have DVD drives yet.

This is getting to be as bad as floppies back in the day. I remember about five or so years ago, I was installing "Reader Rabbit II" on my dad's archaic desktop. You know how many floppies "Reader Rabbit II" took? Seven.

Hopefully within the next couple of years we might upgrade to DVD-ROMs. :p

Then after that we'll be upgrading to blurays or something. Who knows whats gonna be after DVDs?

Buy something like a Radeon 9700 Pro or better. I have a 9700 Pro, and that'll support the best games for at least another year.

If you wanna play Doom 3, dont get a Radeon, instead get something like a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, since Doom 3 runs best on nvidia cards.

yeah, but i'd like to be able to play HL2 as well... so it has to be some form of ATI product...hmmm.

http://tech-report.com/etc/2003q3/valve/index.x?pg=2

I was thinking of either a 9600XT, a 9700 Pro or a 9800 Pro, but i think the 96 may be a bit too old, the 97 doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the uk and the 98 is too expensive. sigh.

Looks like a 96 will run HL2 ok, but i'm not sure about doom. Anyone know if there is any major difference between the 96,97 and 98s appart from speed? They are all DX9 as far as i know.

You can get a 96 for a third of the price of a 98, and we will all need to replace them with PCIxpress cards in a year or two anyway...

hmmm. all too tricky....

I may just get the snes version....

LOL!

If you want to play both D3 and HL2, get something like a Radeon X800 or GeForce 6800 Ultra. You'll be able to run both games at max settings. Unless you're not willing to pay $800 for it. :D

Because i stole the game leak.

j/k :p

Dude its common sense

Ever heard of the word "news" or "internet"? And if you go to the nvidia or Doom 3 preview sites, you'll see it runs best on nvidia cards. Especially on the GeForce 6, but the FX is already good enough.

Robert Duffy said there was only a slight difference between ATI and Nvidia.

looks like the difference will be much bigger on HL than D3, and nvidia have basically admitted ATI have better cards, fixed the results of benchmarks and banned people from releasing benchmarks for games cos they show the problem the latest nvidia cards have... so ati it is.

Why does no-one sell 9700 pros, only 9600s and 9800s?

price vs performace shootout for anyone who is also looking for cards... although it is a month or two old so the 9800s may have dropped in price...

But thats proberly during last year when nvidia launched the FX series. Right now, this time no one won, ATI's Radeon X800 and nvidia's 6800 Ultra both tied together cause they both run equally well on almost every game.

Gabrobot, if you look at the benchmarks with the 6800 and the X800, the 6800 wins out easily against the X800.

Yes (in 1600x1200), but that's because of hardware not because "ATI sucks in OpenGL".

Ever Since I heard "DooM III going Gold" I have upgraded my PC in all fields just to run DooM III "well"

-Graphic Card

-Processer

-Memory

Make all the lag history...

I've been waiting so long for Doom III, ID has always been the ones to come out and make the engine that will revelutionize the gaming world. Quake III engine brought us, Quake III (of course), Team Arena, Jedi Outcast, Star Trek: Elite Force, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Enemy Territory, and one that I didn't realize until somebody told me was Call of Duty. I heard the next Call of Duty exspansion Pack will be made by the creators of Wolfenstien, Also I heard

In one scene your in a plane that drops the paratroops, you have to keep things together, soon after the back breaks off and you got to get a parashoot and jump out behind enemy lines (usual Wolfenstien thing)
