Release date is 9/21, not shipping date.

I just email estarland, the website that I pre-ordered my copy from, and asked them if 9\21 is the day that the manufacturer will ship it to the retailer or is it the date that the game will be on the shelves and this was their replay:

Hello,

The release date for Star Wars Battlefront is 9/21/04 this is the date the manufacturer is going to release it and also the date that we will ship it out. Since you ordered it express, you should receive it the business day after 9/21/04.

Thank you

It doesn't make sense for retailers to sell a game on the 21st if they don't get it until the 22nd.

Thus, the SHIP date is 9/21. The retail RELEASE date (or date of AVAILABILITY) is 9/22.

Wal-Mart and Target will have it on the 23rd. GameSpot will have it on the 22nd. Pre-orders will have it on the 22nd.

Pretty sure it will be available on the 21st. That's when the retailers will get their shipments. The e-retailer that Badger is getting his copy from is shipping it out on the 21st, meaning they would have already gotten their first shipment of the game from the publisher early THAT MORNING. Meaning the retailers get it on the morning of the 21st, or possibly the evening before.

It may take a day or two for it to appear in the large-chain retail stores, but it should definately be in the gaming store chains on the morning of the 21st. That's what a release date typically means...the date it's released to the public.

Pre-Order: Ships on 9/20/2004.

The "ships on..." is a link to a doc that says customers who pre-order get theirs first, so...

I'd be surprised if it weren't in the stores on 9.21.04, to coordinate with the DVD release. (Not to mention the two new Elvis Costello CDs and 'Mean Girls' DVD that come out on that day!)

Well the store clerk from EB Games where I pre ordered mine from assures me the game will be on his shelves on the 21st - hence the release date, meaning the day the game is available to consumers not the day it is shipped from the manufacturer, lol.

Anyway I could care less what day the game arrives on the shelf. I'll get it when it gets there.

really, big retail chains should get the original trilogy about a week in advance, same as the game should be. that way all they have to do is wait for 9/21 to come by and put it out on shelves. (most video stores do it that way, take hellboy for example, it came out this past tuesday but video chains like hollywood video got it in the previous week. and workers in that store got to take it home a week early to watch it, before thay had to put it on shelves this past tuesday.) so really if that holds true for the OT, some people should be able to see it a week early. if they know people who work or themselves work for a video chain. i'm gonna go to wal-mart on the midnight of the 20th (seeing as its a 24 hour wal-mart and will start selling the trilogy at 12:01 9/21). i'll buy the copy of the OT, and even if the battlefront game isn't in yet, which it should be, then i'll play the xbox demo that is on the OT dvd bonus disk until they put the game out on the shelves.:D

The movie trilogy will definitely be on shelves on the 21st -- Tuesdays are generally when new releases come out.

The only way that the game will be available on the same day is if they street-date it. Only one game was ever street-dated in the last two years -- Microsoft Midtown Madness 2 on the X-Box.

All other games were shipped on the so-called "release date".

I worked at Target for the last two years and I work at GameStop now.

Well either their lying or you don't know what your talking about. Every company I have asked said it will be on the shelves, or shiped, on the 21 of Sept. Even Lucasarts, and the company I preordered it from. So I'll go with what they say. Sorry man.

OK, just to end the speculation and further debate on mundane subjects such as these. Retailers such as EB and Gamestop release ALWAYS get their new releases in the morning on tuesdays. They then proceed to put the games on the shelves and sell them to those customers who preordered them. So what does this mean? It means you all WILL have your games if you preordered them by 6PM your time on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. If you have your game shipped to you, you will either have it by 6:00 PM, tuesday september 21, 2004 or you will get it Wednesday september 22, 2004, depending on where you're at or how your local postal service works.

Every game that i have ever preordered has come in either that tuesday or thursday, mostly tuesday and seeing as how the release date is in fact tuesday, it will be released, guess when................. TUESDAY, Not Wednesday, not Monday, TUESDAY.

Actually, Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter, and the console version of Jedi Knight were all shipped on a Thursday and on store shelves Friday.

And it'd be more accurate to say that they get their new releases whenever the mail comes, lol (our comes in at 2 PM  ). If we have it in the morning, it's because we had it all weekend waiting to be sold.

I am not disputing the fact that SWB will be available on the 21st. What I'm saying is that the only way for Battlefront to be on shelves Tuesday the 21st is for it to be STREET-DATED, which means that the stores will actually have them the Friday or Saturday before.

Yaeb -- GameStop, Cracker Barrel and college, actually (starting next week).

Now's the time to petitioin your local supplier (EB Games, Best Buy, whoever!) for a little MIDNIGHT MADNESS! Work a little Force Push on those folks so that they stay open late Monday night and release that baby at midnight.
