worth buying?

Now that jedi academy has been released for a while and I still have some bucks to spend I wonder if the game is worth it.

I loved jedi knight 2, but I hated it there were so few people playing it online after 3 months already. Are there still people left playing academy, more then 50 at least?? I don't play games like doom 3, because I want to play games at a framerate over 50 and many games these days don't offer that with even radeon 9800 pros... Anyway, is the quality of this game as good as the second one?

Depends on your definition of playing.

If it's the stand around chatting, spawning rancors, emoting, lame crying, amabusing people for not dueling but trying to kill in FFA. Then yeah, theres quite a few people still there for that.

If it's playing the game as it was designed, there may be some that the weirdos with their polluted concept of jedi honor haven't driven away yet...... Definatly few & far between, but maybe some.

The game is worth buying even from an SP perspective; it's a lot of fun to go through and whatnot. Though, if you're going for an SP game, KotOR is better. I honestly couldn't talk about the online scene because I don't play online... I can't. But since you can get it for pretty cheap, and it's a pretty good game, I'd go for it if I were you.

JA is definitely worth getting if you have any interest in SP. Although KOTOR is a better game overall, JA does have drastically different gameplay. So it is a nice change.

JA has less servers and less ppl, like JK2 had, but it's pretty sure that you'll find 2-5 servers that have over 10 ppl playing with ping 50-100.

As of right now (4:49 pm CST, Aug 23, 2004):

JA: 1332 players, 544 servers*

JK2: 683 players, 400 servers

This and less than a month until JA's 1 year anniversary of it's release...

*JA also had more yesterday evening, in fact it was up to over 1400+ players.

I second that you should buy KOTOR. it is a over all fun game. In JA, yes, there are many cool looking moves. but with the controls its more of a button masher to me. With KOTOR theres dodging and realistic looking combat, also the fact that trying to complete everything in KOTOR( the side missions and the story mode missions) your have your hands full for mouths. While JA has mulity player games the single player game can be beaten in a weekend at the most. Both games let you choose beteewn light and dark side JA has you make a bad move and now your on the dark side. In KOTOR the way you help people, complete missions, and the decions you make, decides on light or dark side. I really like that you make the choose over a period of time and not just in a matter of seconds. KOTOR is my pick. (off my ass on the spelling, iam tierd)

It is rather diffucult in my opinion to compare KOTOR and JA. KOTOR is an RPG with lots of dialogue and a deep story. You also dont directly control your character. JA on the other hand, is a FPS so you can shoot, slash and pummel you enemies with the click of a mouse.

But seriously dude, if you got the money, buy both of them and start saving for Battlefront!

It all depends what you're gaming interests are. I own both JA and KOTOR. Both are excellent games. For those times you want to relax a bit and play a game that has a fantastic story, immersive atmosphere and colorful (yet believable) characters whose personalities only get better over time, KOTOR is the way to go.

If, however, you find yourself wanting to go on a Jedi crusade, slicing and dicing enemies galore while still keeping that authentic Star Wars feel and magic, JA is a great game to fufill that need.

I still play both games on a regular basis. Depending on how I feel, I'll play the game that will satisfy my mood.
