Its portraying Hank as someone from high up in their case and its parallel to a supposedly existing God in our case, and Karl is supposedly a messenger, for example, Jesus in Christianity, and the list of items is the same as the Bible for Christianity, or the Qu'ran for Islam, etc etc.. Read it thoroughly again, replacing "Hank" with "God", "Karl" with "Jesus", "list of items" with "Bible", and you've got it.

No problem.

Oh yes, and I just realized, "Hank kicking the sh** out of you" is akin to "Jesus/God condemning you to Hell"...

I think that Karl is supposed to be more like the Pope, rather than Jesus.

now i get why its in the senate chambers... Yay for the revolution.

How the christians ran behind those followers like a big pack of dogs... I don't mind Jesus (the 1st houdini) but its the fanclub. The "IDEA" of a religion is good (beeing nice and such) but it has all been abused and i don't believe in praying and such.

Dang i'm taking this topic too serious.

Yup, that's why it's here. If it was in the swamp, people would've just laughed real hard about it. In here, people draw the parralel wih religion. And i see it now too. hehe, the million dollars representing heaven... Kinda funny to look at religion this way. makes you wonder why there still are christians/jews/muslims.

Yeah, well who likes the idiot of a Pope anyway? :p Thinks the earth is 2,000 years old.

Uh, Straw man much?

What Pope are you talking about?? 2,000 years ago, Jesus was walking around in Palestine somewhere...

Pope John Paul II has said on a couple of occasions that "Evolution is more than a theory" and that science and faith need not be enemies, etc. The notion of a "Young Earth" is not part of (at least modern, official) Catholic teaching.

While you are right, that's hardly the point. The point here is that it is utterly inappropriate for the Fascist in Rome to comment on scientific subjects.

No, the point is in an honest debate, use of logical fallacies to back up an argument is... well.. fallacious.

Let's try another example, shall we?

Bush is an idiot! You know why? Because he claims that aliens are implanting cybornetic devices in our brains and controlling them with cell phones!

Or:

Clinton is an evil man, because he once raped a child, then ate the body.

Are those statements valid reasons to dislike Bush or Clinton? No, because they are nonesensical and made up. It's illogical to attack somebody for doing something they aren't doing.

Or are we just inventing satire here rather than having a reasonable discussion (checks to see if this is still the Senate Chambers)? Maybe I missed the point after all...

; )

Update: Skin, I tried what you said and it worked. I guess Opera doesn't (by default) display txt for some reason. As to the story, it's obviously satire and I "get it." It's a story satirizing Christianity and its missionaries.

Of course, it's not a perfect analogy, and it's meant as a joke (to those who are sick and tired of being preached to by well-meaning evangelizers surely). I wouldn't take it too seriously as actual evidence to back up arguments against Catholicism or any other "organized religion." But it seems that is where the "idiot of a pope" comment came from, which is why I responded to it. "the story of Hank" is a strawman if you take it as a literal analogy.

John Paul II is not a fascist. He's the first pope who's actually open to other people and other religions(well, he doesn't condemn them). He also is the first to meet with other religious leaders and tell them to pray together for world peace.

He's not an idiot.

P.S: I'm in no-way associated to the Catholic church.

Wrong. My point is that it's wrong for the Fascist in Rome to endorse any scientific theory, simply because scientific theories are subject to change without advance notice, and the Fascist in Rome has in the past been unwilling to submit to this principle - which means that he should stay out of the scientific and political debate.

The fact that he may have gotten it right this time doesn't change the fundamental error in the way he reasons.

Surely your own religious affiliations flaw your perception. It's an extremely good description. It does not describe - and does not presume to describe - what goes on in the preachers' heads. Rather it presents the subject's experience of being faced with a pair of nutcases trying to convince him that their cock-and-bull story has any validity. As such it should provoke thought amongst those who preach. And - more importantly - should provide an insight into why some people feel that religion should be dismantled. Empathy is a good thing. If religion conveyed a little more of that, it would be a lot more civilised. Of course, it would also be a lot less prosperous.

John Paul II is not a fascist.

Ah, well, it's more of a title really. He's head of state in the last unreformed Axis country. That would make him the leader of a Fascist country - hence the title.

He's not an idiot.

Never said that he was... But some of his Cardinals are clearly off their rockers.
