Ive played the ps2 demo quite a few times now and i cant help but realize how incredidbly easy it is to destroy all computer characters in your path. I put it on hard but its still real easy. The biggest problem is that they dont guard things well .... this will change when humans come into play though. Does anybody else think they need to beef up the AI?

Well AI is AI, not to much to say about AI. Maybe in 10 years or so they may actually give up a good fight, but technology is not up to par yet I guess. When you play on hard mode on the demo the AI gives you a run for your money though.

they just stood still, next to each other. And when they were driving a tank they crashed into a building

I've heard good and bad about the AI. One dude said that it was tough to tell the difference between the AI and a real person. This thread has people saying that the AI is stupid. Which is true?

I would like some more people who are playing the PS2 demo to give their thoughts on how good the AI is. Please comment in this thread. Thanks!

But that doesn't make the AI less important. I'd like to play the campaigns too, and a good AI would be nice there.

/\/\ I agree.

BF1942 is fun for coop games, even though the AI is less than stellar. I plan on playing this game primarily on SP on my X-Box and I hope that the AI is good enough to make it enjoyable. Do any of you that have played the PS2 have any comments?

yes the ai in the demo is just horrible... for example i was on a speeder and i drove right up to a shock trooper (me a rebel pilot) all he did was stare at me switched to his pistol and kept staring not once did he shoot!

Hmmmm, so I suppose we will be seeing Luke Skywalker crash with his X-wing :p . Im not so worried about the bot AI, but the special characters and NPC AI. Are the Ewoks even smart at all?

The one thing i would say is don't use the demo as a final judgment on the AI. It is a demo and as such an unfinished version of the game. I heard in an interview or preview a while back that the AI will act accordingly to certain situations depending on where they are in the map. Apparently there's an area radius where troops will act and go for the base. there's other areas where they will shoot at the opposing team in order to get to another area and so on. I believe the game also has commands for troops to follow, attack, capture the base, and so on. These features were in bf 1942 and vietnam as well but not used to their full potential. Hopefully pandemic has addressed that with this game as i'm sure they played 1942 and vietnam to really get a sense of what they wanted to do with battlefront.

Can any devs confirm or deny?

In that case it probably means that the AI runs around doing stupid things and yelling, "OMFG!! U GEY LAMERZ!!!" I would think that would make it very hard to seperate the bots from real players.

Maybe it is only the PS2 version that sucks. ;)

well there are noobs who just go out guns blazing and get killed every 10 seconds or so in similar games. In that regard, yes there are a few players who are lacking in skills. The good thing is every team has one or two so no worries about getting pwned.

When you have so many bots at once, it makes it difficult for AI to function very well in the first place. The best AI I know of come from Single Player games where you are the only good guy. Except for Rainbow 6. Games like Thief 3, Doom 3, etc. I dont like it in Single Player games where you are supposed to keep other bots alive and they keep running into enemy and getting killed.

My experience with the demo AI has been mixed. At times, they'll work together in a specific spot defending a control point, at other times they just stand there and let you kill them. It really varies.

They NEVER make any effort to come inside the shield bunker and stop you from blowing up the generator. That's rather annoying. But they do make an effort to take and defend control points, and they can be extremely deadly when in a turret. Their AT-ST piloting skills leave a lot to be desired, though!
