Whoa...I got a bad feeling about this game...

Hmm, this sounds pretty interesting.

I saw this game at the store Missing

I was like... o_O

So I did some research.

"Unique for an adventure title, Missing requires Internet access and a legitimate e-mail address, and in order to play the game, you must be connected. As the game progresses, it sends information back to the servers, at which point you receive e-mails that provide additional details, hints, clues, and more to help you learn about the world you've suddenly become embroiled in. If this reminds you of the failed Electronic Arts product, Majestic, it should, because there are a few similarities. You won't receive instant messages or phone calls, but the e-mails read as if real people are on the other end (even if some are a bit loquacious).

The freakiest element of the game, though, is that as the players work to unravel the mystery, they'll catch the attention of both people involved in the case and the serial killer himself. As the game progresses, the player will begin to receive a series of disturbing e-mails from "The Phoenix". Even more bizarre, though, is that many of these e-mails will be real and personalized for the player. The developer has engaged a team of twenty people to respond to the e-mails that get sent by the players. In fact, the producer relayed an amusing story where one of the players (who thought that the e-mail system was automated) sent a profanity-laced e-mail to one of the game's characters. The e-mail he received in return was from an "outraged" character who threatened to cut off communication and withhold vital information. A string of apologetic e-mails followed until the "person" at the other end forgave the player and finally parted with the information the he needed.

Also unlike Majestic, Missing does have an ending. When the player finally figures out who the Phoenix is and gets the authorities to take him out, they will get a reward sequence that the producer describes as "a suitable reward for all the work" -- and a few weeks later, they may even get something more."

Should I give this a go?

I can't recall the name, but wasn't there a similar premise for a game released a year or two back that bombed? A shame, because as I recall, it got decent revues. Just nobody got into it. I dunno, you can see the future, so figure out if it'll be good and let us know!

Uhmmm...this is where I say I'm just kidding again.

I think you're right. I gotta say though, I think that would be pretty funny the first...couple times? I'm up that late and much later (due to my work) so it wouldn't have bothered me much getting the calls. Sounds like a good game though. I'm gonna check out the link you provided now. I hope it's not pay to play though. I hate that. and refuse to feed that beast. Probably is though.
