Fred Tetra
Fred Tetra's Wristwatch 1.0 One night while working on Kotor Tool's Conversation Editor, I realized that I could change the text of a conversation while SW:KotOR was running and have those changes show up in the game without reloading. Thus was born the idea for a wristwatch device. The 'wristwatch' consists of a helper application that updates the device's data every 10 seconds, the watch's files, and a replacement spells.2da file. If you want to preserve your own spells.2da file in your KotOR override folder, do so before launching the setup program. To use the wristwatch, first start the helper app (Start | Programs | Fred Tetra | Run Wristwatch). Next, start KotOR and use the "giveitem ft_watch" command from the cheat (">") prompt to get the device, equip it, then "use" it while back in the game. To uninstall, just use the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel in Windows. You can download the wristwatch from the Kotor Tool site

Fred Tetra
It's meant to be more of a fun proof-of-concept thing I also thought up a way to be able to read email (text only), too. It even would keep track of which items you "said" to delete and would then delete them from the POP3 server. Again, just a fun concept

MTV2
When I try to install it, it says: Error 1606. Could not acces network location override, this happens when I double click the installer:confused:
Fred Tetra
Hmm.... I'll look into it. And to think I used InstallShield to avoid those sort of problems!

Darkkender
Hey Fred I have a question since I haven't installed this yet(I need my current spells.2da for my current WIP). Does this item launch an exe effectively while in the game? because if so this can prove very useful on a more large scale in modding terms. by that I mean it might be conceivable to mod on the fly in game with writing scripts and testing them without shutting down the game. Darth333
You don't need to shut down the game completely to test scripts: you can modify them directly in the override folder and compile them while the game is running.

Fred Tetra
I'm glad you're having fun with it I'd love to hear other's ideas on some other fun or useful applications for this techinique. I've already mentioned my email idea; another is to use it for a home automation monitor/controller. Using X-10 based controls, which are a consumer-grade home lighting and power remote controls, my helper app can monitor their state and reflect that in the "dialog" on an in-game computer. Since conversations can also call scripts that set the value of global variables, these values can also be monitored by the helper app and used to control the X-10 units. Sure, it's only slightly more useful than the wristwatch... Another fun idea would be to use scripts in the game to set variables (again monitored by the app and used to control something outside) that would create a more immersive game experience. Think of a fan blowing sand against you when you're on Tattooine (sp?) , or perhaps a hydraulic chair shaker to add some "action" to those swoop bike races or turret games
tk102
Good idea, however you wouldn't be able to see changes to the globals until the game is saved.
PoM
I got a problem with this one, i get it when using giveitem ft_watch, i equip it and then...how do i use it? i check where i use force powers...no watch. Then i check at my medpacks and antidotes...no watch. I check where i first thougt it would be: With the adrenals and energy shields...no watch, not at the mines either.
