Lieutenant_kettch
i created this poll because some people i see say the defender is cool because its nearly unbeatable, while others say its fun to play as, and even some hate the blasted thing
Jan Gaarni
Well, I chose the fun factor, because, while it is strong, I don't believe it to be unstoppable.
Shok_Tinoktin
I also chose fun, I love flying that thing. But at least in TIE-Fighter (haven't had much experience with it in XWA), it is far from unstoppable.

stingerhs
its overpowered. at least till i have it staring down the pipes of a concussion missile...
Kain
I prefer Rebellion ships...and if I have to decide on an Imperial ship...I'd say the Gunboat...but in terms of TIEs, I like the Interceptor.

You're an X-wing fan, aren't you? I'm guessing cuz the gunboat is pretty similar to an X-Wing

A leisure ship with a crud load of guns and a small brigade of my best pilots.

swphreak
Well, I really don't know where we're judging the TIE Defender from, but speaking from an EU view, it is nearly unstoppable. In the X-Wing series, it took like 2 X-Wings to take on a Defender.

Two X-Wings is not what I would consider nearly unstoppable, and you have to consider that they had never gone up against Defenders, so they didn't know their capabilities, and thus did not know the best way to go up against them. And I think most of us are judging based on cockpit sims.

The Empire doesn't use them much from their invention all the way up to the end of the [possible NJO spoiler] New Republic so why would they need something to combat it? it is no threat. swphreak
Ok, It took Wedge and some other Rogue Squadron pilot to take out a TIE Defender. Wedge even comments on how deadly they are. And yes, there really is no need for the NR to build an "anti-defender" starfighter. The drawback to the Defender is the very expensive cost to build them. Ysanne Isard was lucky enough to stash some somewhere, I guess. Also, the new XJ-Xwing could probbaly take on Defenders. There was also the E-wing closer to the time there were Defenders. Lieutenant_kettch
but the e-wing suucked, slower than an a-wing, only 3 lasers, decent armor, decent maneuver also, they need to invent an antidefender for the sake of inventing something that awesome, maybe a quicker more portable darksaber... swphreak
I don't know where you got that from, but speaking from EU sources, the E-Wing supposed to be more powerful than the X-Wing since newer technology has come along since the X-Wing was created. And we all know how Darksaber turned out

Lieutenant_kettch
no no no, i know the e-wing is better than x-wing, but that doesn't mean i think x-wings were any good, BTW, in the other best starship poll, i conceded that the defender was good, just not my style nor was it any good using my strategy. The e-wing is better than the x-wing, but nowhere near as good as an a-wing. an a-wing is sufficient IMO, even considered a good fighter. but anything less than a-wing is no good
primalunderdog
The defender was good, but the pirates take old ship parts and combine them.If i could do that i would have a Z-95 headhunter cockpit and TIE Defenders wings.
Lieutenant_kettch
hmm, interesting, but then you would run the problem of being slow with no lasers... now, somebody needs to make the T-16 vacuum capable... then we would have something to combat the TD
Shok_Tinoktin
The lasers are on the wings on the TD, so it would have lasers.
Rogue15
It's awesome, my favorite TIE. I like the Missile Boat more though...equip that with heavy rockets and with it's turbo boost, you can take out starships with ease.
Sabretooth
Haven't played it, so can't really tell. I'd go for OK, though.
