Master_Ginn
I'm basically starting this thread to vent and possibly a little advice. The past couple of weeks have probably been the worst in my life. And i'm getting pretty mad. First I work at safeway and I hate it. THey are constantly calling me in to stay late and come in early, being the nice guy that i am, i come in. Well i think they are starting to see that I do come in when they ask and are starting to take advantage of me. Today i got a call fomr the assistant manager saying i need to call him and talk about some hours and i have to come in from 1-10 on friday. I was scheduled from 3-7. But i was told to come in at 1 not asked. So i'm debating whether i'm gonna call him or just show up at 3. Plus i have all kinds of bills i'm gonna have to pay at the begining of the month and i'll barely have enough money to pay the bills. And i've been planning on playing in a hockey league with my best friend and i probably won't be able to, because i have no moneys. So basically I will have no fun this year. Just school and work. Then my Grandmother passed away. I've missed a lot of school so i could be with my family. And most of my teachers are saying that the policy of miss 3 days of class and you drop a letter grade is still in affect even in a death of a family member. So i pretty much have dropped a letter grade in each of my classes, on top of not being able to make up any work. I think i may fail all my classes. I may unenroll jsut so it doesn't drop my GPA. ANd yes they take attendence in COLLEGE! So i have no idea what to do about work and school, and i'm getting a little stressed. Sorry to vent but it's nice to get it out! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Master_Ginn
I forgot to mention that safeway may go on strike. Which is either a blessing or bad news bears.
Rogue15
geez...you sound like I did when i worked at pizza hut. I hated that place, and I'm never going back to the food industry thanks to that bullcrap of calling me on my days off...and I'd ALWAYS say yes..just cause of extra money...which isn't true cause i could've been making more than 6.16 an hour someplace else... I'm unemployed right now, looking for a job that I would LIKE to work at, and to no success. Just consider your options I guess.... there is always the military. but then again, i tried that and got sick during training and here i am, unemployed. i swear this world has something against me. hmmm....think i'm going to go fishing tomorrow. what the **** did i buy that damn license for anyway? ET Warrior
I know what it's like to have an attendance policy in a class in college, and it's absolutely ridiculous. The only class it would make sense in is like a philosophy class, where the entire class is about discussion. OTherwise if you can miss the class and still do well then I really think that's YOUR decision to miss, esPECIALLY for a death in the family. I'm REALLY sorry about your grandmother man, I know you were close. And I will pay for your hockey session if you'll let me.
ckcsaber
Dude, I know what it's like. I'm *trying* to juggle college and a job right now. All I can recommend is calling your boss and telling him how the sh1t is gonna go down. Reasonable hours, or you quit. I know it sounds like a big risk, but your main purpose is school, right? You can't let your job cut into your studies too much, and you do need time to relax from school and work. Just hang tough, and maybe try and see if you can get some sort of financial aid to help pay for your bills. Good luck man.
Master_Ginn
And I will pay for your hockey session if you'll let me. I can't let you do that E.T. It would take forever to pay you back, and plus you've got bills to pay for! As for financial aid, i recieved a couple grand but still doesn't fully pay off my schooling. So i think i owe about $400 for school still. BUt my parents are able to help me out with that. I have been doing this internet survey thing where i take surveys and get paid for it. Its really hard to keep up with it all between work and school. Maybe if i quit i can put more time into it than i have been!
ET Warrior
I wasn't asking to be paid back. As for your letter grade drop, I would take it to the Dean if your professors won't see reason. I would think if you could arrange some kind of meeting with the higher ups in the school they might be more understanding. I don't think it's reasonable to dock you an entire letter grade for wanting to attend your grandmothers funeral. I also agree with cksaber, I would just flat out tell your boss that you have school and if he doesn't stop giving you such crappy hours he can look for another employee. If he fires you, you'll have to find another job, which is always crappy, but it can be done, and it's better than ALWAYS getting screwed.

Master_Ginn
Thanks a bunch guys, but i can't let you pay for my hockey season. It's way too expensive. But you guys are the best friends anyone could have! I'm gonna give my boss a call right now. It's about 12:10. I'm gonna see why they need me to come in. Wish me Luck! SeleneRayne
Poor Kain has the same problem with bills and not enough money for him for grocereies. you are not alone. that job sounds a lot like my brothers. he works at a local prison and works terrible hours and is always asked to stay after his shift is up, dead tired, he does it anyway. keep on dear brother! well, if that job does go on strike, I say find another better job, then get the hell out! the are obviously taking advantage of your nice nature and you're extremely tied up with bills and lack of money. hope it helps. sorry to hear about your grandmother too
Troopr-Undr-Fir
Definitly not alone there buddy. I live with my girlfriend which helps A LOT with money now, but I do remember what it was like, sacrificing things, just so you could eat . But hey, I'm going through school just like you, and all that should keep your hopes up is that degree. Life must suck in order for it to get better (for most people w/ out the silver spoon in their mouth). Your drive: That degree Try not to have too many things bother you, or that drive will take a dive... real quick.
Master_Ginn
You don't have to let us, we're doing it anyway You better not! I got my schedule today and it had me scheduled to work on monday(the day I would play hockey). I was talking to other people in the deli about it and I guess the reason Tiffany(the evil asst. manager) isn't letting me get monday nights off is because she just doesn't want to! I'm very mad and am probably going to quit my job within the next week or so. I can't believe she won't give me one day off every week, just because she wants to. I think I may go have a talk with the store manager and if he doesn't straighten things out, he'll have big trouble coming his way. Should i quit now and look for another job? OR should i just keep this job and look for another job while working. I don't know if i can keep working like this. Cause this is really killing me emotionally and physically. ET Warrior
Dont do something that causes you this much grief. tell them that you expect to be treated fairly and a LOT better than you are now or you're done. I'd start the job hunt for something new immediately, but if you haven't found anything and work is still being crappy then tell them where to shove it. You do NOT have to put up with that kind of crap just because you are an employee. Find a job that will treat you fairly. And if you DO quit your job within the next couple weeks we got a spot on the team for you mate.
Acrylic
First : ET, Feanaro, and the_raven_03 ; Do ya'll know eachother in real life? Second: I'm very sorry that things are going so bad for you. I'm not old enough to have experienced anything like this, but I'm sure I will once I'm out of the house. As far as your job goes, I suggest keeping it until you get another job. Some money is better than no money. Keep that in mind. Hope I helped somewhat. -Me
