You think about it:

- What would the teaser trailer have done for the grosses on, say "National Lampoon's Gold Diggers"? Or "Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2"? Both this year, both pure crap. On movies like those, the impact, perhaps, could have been measured.

But for the incredibles, it is just good marketing:

- The relationship with Pixar is good - use what you got!

- The movie looked really good ever since introduced.

- The age range is quite appropriate - the core PG crew.

It all adds up to a great place to stick a trailer.

So what impact? Perhaps a million $? At most ... if anything, if someone knew a theater was going to be screening the preview they might go there, or if they were deciding on whether to go out or not that might have been an extra push ...

i see the review thread for the incredibles thinks it is just as amazing as everyone at slashdot. I really must go and watch that film.

Oddly enough, i didn't think the trailer FOR the incredibles was that great.

I can't believe that there would be enough die hard SW fans to add more than about a million to that gross. I can't see how many fans would even KNOW the trailer was on there without the internet... and most people with the internet would have downloaded it by now anyway (or seen it on tv).

I was on dialup for Ep1, and of course at that point the hype was HUGE as we asssumed the prequels would live up to the originals, so i went to the cinema mainly to watch it (was attached to some other film over here, lost souls maybe? can't remember...).

But i wouldn't bother these days. I've already downloaded it and watched it. It is really short and mostly stuff i've already seen. I'm not as hyped as i once was. It has rekindled my interest, but not made me want to rush off to the cinema.

Unfortunately it probably isn't attached to a cool film like the incredibles over here, as it hasn't come out yet...

Maybe the better question would be:

"What did the Incredibles do for the Episode III Trailer?"

If 70 million bucks was made on the movie, a lot of people saw the trailer. How many of those people didn't know the trailer was going to be there and got a great surprise and are now hyped up on Star Wars again? I think it was a great marketing move by Georgie poo.

i had no problem with your choice of film, i certainly wouldnt have gone to see Wing Commander (as much as i love the games i KNEW that movie would be bad i finally saw it couple of months ago on sky and it was mighty baaaad.....:D)

anyway, returning to topic, Notneb presents a very good point, The Incredibles has probably done a lot for the exposure of the trailer and many more people will now be eagerly awaiting episode 3.

2005s gonna be a good year for movies for me, if im lucky i might even get a War of the Worlds film out of it (possibly two if speilberg and cruise get a shift on but that version is only going to drain ten pounds out my account and give me enough material to complain for many years to come....)

well, this year was pretty poor for movies, so it will have to be a bit better.

Can't think of much at all that i have seen that has been good this year. Lost in Translation and Infernal Affairs are probably the ONLY great films of the year. (and hopefully the incredibles).

I miss the expectation of a new LOTR film... at least with them you knew there was one good film left for the year.

Isn't speilberg making a futuristic war of the worlds? I'd be more interested in the other guy (whoever it is) who is making a victorian era one, as it would make it much more unique and interesting. Though he probably isn't as good a director as SB.

I haven't seen the movie yet, I'm gonna see it thanksgiving, and I've already seen the trailer. So that isn;t gonna be my dciding factor. My deciding factor is because it was made by Pixar, and I liked the trailers they showed of it.

The Ep3 trailer on the big screen is just a bonus.

I finally saw "The Incredibles" and I'll have to say that it has to be one of the best movies that I have ever seen in my life. I recommend that everybody see it in the world. It is Pixars best movie yet. The animations are great but the story is even better. The humor is great and the action is great. The story is very predictable of course, but it goes well with the entire package. Two thumbs way up for me.
