i will never recant my disdain for the Dawn remake :p ever! but this, it has promise, kind of like the elation i felt when i heard George Romero was working on the Resident Evil movie. in that case the producers let me down, but in this case there is a good chance they will not, since they are the original guys :p

well your first sentance leads me be suspect of you right off the bat ;) and then you go on to marginalize raimi's part in the evil dead movies, yea, bruce was a huge part, especially in the 2nd and 3rd ones, which you seem to be refering to his charcter in, but without sams writing/directing there wouldnt have been evil dead 2 nor army of darkness.

as for rob zombie, house of a 1000 corpses wasnt bad, but it was nearly scene for scene take from Tobe Hoopers Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, so im curious who he will rip off for this next one :D i have to say, his rip off is better than a lot of ppls remakes.

What one has to bear in mind is that the Evil Dead was schlock. It was low budget schlock, and while Romero's original Dawn had some sort of social commentary and self-effacing humour to lend it additional merit, Evil Dead didn't have either. It was only ED2 that acquired the wonderful self-effacing quality that made it such a success on all fronts.

Bearing this in mind, one would think that ED1 is perfect fodder for a remake, as one should only ever remake bad movies, never good movies. However, one MUST NOT forget that ED2 is to all intents and purposes a remake of ED1 ANYWAY.

And ED2 ironed out the flaws in ED1.

So why bother remaking it again?

In short, while I personally wouldn't bother, I have more time for the Evil Dead remake than I do for say... the remake of the Ladykillers. How dare they remake an Ealing classic? What, pray, was WRONG with it? Nothing. Remake films that have something wrong with them. Goddamnit.

Turds.

That is what i was thinking. How many times can you remake the same film? (especially as it only had a pretty simple plot to start with). The only possible reason i could see to like this would be that, if it has a big budget, it might just get Bruce Campbell noticed above the cult level... something he really deserves.

Hollywood seems to have completely lost all originality these days. Loads of sequels. Remaking literally dozens of japanese and korean movies. Remaking Taxi. Remaking DOTD, the ladykillers, manchurian candidate, italian job, ocenas 11, etc...

The only original movies they are making at the moment are BIOPICS, and comic book movies (which are hardly original, and are all starting to look the same anyway).

While I don't mind remaking old classics on principle (hollywood has always done it to an extent), they seem to have gone overboard recently... remaking even modern films. I do wish they wouldn't use the same name though... as it causes confusion and help to erase the original. add a 2004 or a 2 or a return of... or something.

Pixar seem to be the only guys developing original material these days... (and you just know disney are gonna produce a load of rubish knockoff sequels to those as well...)
