Hannibal
All these stores online and not online want people to preorder and they make it seem like if you don't you'll miss out. For like the 3rd or 4th time I've planned on getting a new game from the store and when they didn't have it ordered it online to have it ship that same day. I did it with KOTOR and KOTOR2. My question to you is do you feel preordering actually gets you anything? Besides a pewter lightsaber key chain (which they didn't have this time). edit: Moving my own thread. starmark2k
From what i can remember from GCSE buisness studies. to pre-order an item is to enter into a contract of intent (as oppose to a contract of action which would be buying the object strait away) to pre-order says you will definatly get it on the day it is availible. the shop haas no legal obligation to supply new games on the day of release unless it has been preordered and then to only those who they entered into contract with. in simple terms it ensures u will be 1 of the first to get the game. from the shop. Hannibal
I understand all that. What I'm saying is what does the pre-orderee( ) get over someone like me. I remember last year people who pre-ordered KOTOR were still waiting for their copies or got them the same time as I did and I ordered mine online the day of release. It seems like cutting in line. In other words the whole contract thing seems like a whole lot of nothing.
Darth333
First time in 30 yrs I pre-order a game or whatever (I guess this is what they call return to childhood ) The only reason I pre-ordered it is that it was practical: the game store is just in front of my office and it's retty crowded these times. I just wanted to make sure I would get it early so I don't get my game spoiled (I know I can't resist very long without looking at what's in those blanked posts...). As for ordering online, I am never there when they deliver the stuff I ordered and I have to run to the west of the city or send faxes to give them authorization to leave the package in the building entrance (it doesn't fit in my mailbox). starmark2k
^^^^ Well say if they only had 500 copies on the day of release, and 450 people pre-ordered it and 100 people ordered it on the day. The shop must put the pre-order people first, so 50 people who ordered it on the day will have to wait. pre-orderers will also get there copies because the shop knows the minimun amount to order in this example 450 copies. bneezy
Well, I'm almost done with GameStop all together. I have been comtemplating this very question today. What is even worse is when you keep getting the run around about when something is going to be released or when it will be in that day. If you've gotta wait for UPS to show up, why dont I just order it ONLINE as well? Best Buy's site said it was being released on the 7th. I check again today, it says the 8th now. I call the guy at GameStop and ask him when it will be in today, he says he's not sure and to keep calling to find out if it's arrived. I go down there a couple hours later to see if it showed up, he tells me it's not even coming in today. I have to come back tomorrow. I feel even worse, I paid in full to get VIP so I wouldn't have to wait in line, and I don't even have a line to not be waiting in because it's not even coming today! They should really be clear about when something is finished, when it is released, when it ships, and when something is going to be in my F*****g hands! In honor of my boiling hate for GameStop: http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2003-02-05&res=l http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2001-10-24 http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=1999-07-16&res=l

Rogue15
my ebgames rules. they have the **** whether or not u preordered it. and i have 3 ebgames to choose from all within 3 miles of eachother. 2 at the mall, and 1 by walmart. i did preorder a week prior to and got halo 2 the day it came out...though. battlefront i didn't even need to preorder it....hell, i went to gamestop to see if they had copies and the guy was like 'did u preorder?' and i said 'no' and he was like 'nope' i think i smelled a bit of a lie there. I HATE though when u preorder something that they throw in u face, then when u go to pick it up they say 'wanna buy the strategy guide too!?' that annoys me to no end....though i know they're doing it out of obligation so they don't lose their job. =\
Blessèd Sith
Bneezy, I so know how you feel! Okay, so the game came out Monday . . . you'd think the store would have it somewhere . . . So I go to Future Shop Monday (it's the closest place by me) and the guy tells me it's coming in on Tuesday night's shipment and that it'll definately be in store by Wednesday morning if I don't get it Tuesday. I called Tuesday and the guy on the phone was like "Uh, it's not coming until Thursday." WTF?!?!?! If it's not there Thursday (well, it is thursday, but in like, 16 hours) there WILL be a bloodbath. My Thursday and Friday will be taken up with slaughter: either of the Jedi or of Future Shop employees. Either way, I'm a busy girl. n_n And I dunno about pre-ordering. I thought about it, but it takes 4-6 days after they get it for it to get to you. So hypothetically, it could be faster to just go in a buy it o_o. Then again, you don't have the guarantee of it being there if you don't pre-order. Maybe I'll just car bomb one of them . . . that might get the message through. Then light some gasoline in the parking lot, creatively decorated to blase KOTOR II NOW!! . . .
Prime
The only thing they get is a longer wait.
bneezy
Blessed Sith, simply put, I like your style. "Do you have KotOR II?" "No, we have NO idea when it's coming." "WTF? Not only did I pre-order it, but I paid in full." "Hey pal, not my problem." "Well Holy S**T, the store's on fire! Looks like it's your problem now!" That's the secret of making people care: Making it their problem.
Darth Omegacron
Just for the record, I've never pre-ordered a game in my life. In fact, games are usually out for over a year before I buy them. 'Course I pay less than 30 bucks for 'em, too. It's okay, though - I'm still a happy person.
90SK
I'll tell you why you need to pre-order it! Free T-Shirt!!!!
Evil Dark Jedi
You gain the game and not the risk of it selling out before you get it. As so many people have said.
Nichpo
I don't really see what the advantage of pre-order is... I've never pre-ordered a game and I always find it in stores...I dunno if it's somtin about Canada and people not buying games... For KotOR II, I walked into the Future Shop near me, and lo and behold there were 20 or 30 copies of it there, the evening of the release date...I checked their site today and they still had 9 in stock... So...my point is (if there was one)...there's no need to pre-order, you can get it anyway (at least in Canada!) :D

Mono_Giganto
What're you guys talking about? That shirt is more than enough for me to pre-order, I might even sell the game and keep the shirt! Bad thing abuot forums is it's harder to detect sarcasm in a nonexistant voice.
