Got it in one.

Was it that hard to figure out Rogue15 or is your "lol n00b" up your own arse attitude just on overdrive?

Zing.

Lucky this thread is about a topic of discussion that was going on (off-topic) in another thread then, isn't it? ;)

That thread had nothing to do with Lynch :p If you click n see, its in the EU forum and its about Idel trying to get his hands on a rare comic :)

We have ended up here, as he commented on my Av and siggy in that thread, so since Lynch isnt EU, a thread about him can come here (or the cantina etc)...

Now, many know Lynch for these 3 things :

1. The Elephant Man

2. The Weird a$$ 1980s version of Dune

3. Twin Peaks TV show

The elephant man is an amazing film, loosely based on a true story. Being in black and white and set in Victorian England, it was the perfect place for Lynch to reveal his obsession with industrial images and noises. This followed on from his debut feature, Eraserhead, his film school piece, that was noticed by Mel Brooks - getting Lynch the nod for the Elephant Man. Interestingly enough, Lynch got an academy award nomination for TEM, his very first studio feature

Now, The DUNE movie is quite easily the lowest point in Lynchs directorial career. Lured into it by a deal which promised him that he could also make Blue Velvet, his next original project.

Needless to say, in teh world of sci-fi and massive productions, this highly experimental 'art school' director was out of his depth, and Dune, whilst being unique and typically Lynch in some places, fails to hit the mark, unline the excellent sci-fi channel series version :)

Blue Velvet was next(1985), and is an amazing thriller, great actors - Dennis Hopper, Isabella Rosellini, Kyle Machlachlan and Laura Dern - if you havent seen it - check it out ! Lynch also got a best director Oscar nomination for this too :)

Lynch then collaborated with Hill Street Blues Producer Mark Frost, they came up with Twin Peaks, a muder mystery but so much more for those who know Lynch ..... This series went for 2 seasons, and if you wer alive in 1990 its highly unlikely that you hadnt heard about this amazing TV show and didnt hear the catch line "who killed Laura Palmer"....

PLEASE DONT SAY WHO KILLED HER, or use spoiler tags, because Idel, who started this thread, doesnt know !

Lynch then made Wild at Heart with Nicolas Cage, Laura Dern and Willem Defoe. Once again, great, typically weird Lynch movie. One of the coolest opening scenes of cinema history :D

Lynch got the coveted "Palme d'Or" at Cannes for this movie :D

Lynch was now the flavour of the month. So he was given the most financial and creative freedom he as ever been giving and made "Fire Walk With Me" - the story of the Last 7 Days of Laura Palmer... Many fans of teh TP TV show, hated this movie, most Lynch fans loved it, and to this day it is my fave non SW movie of all time :D absolutely trippy, experimental and steeped in the symbolism and dream state obsession Lynch is known for..... Films by other directors, including Donnie Darko, owe alot to Lynch and to FWWM in particular....

His next movies were Lost Highway starring Bill Pullman and Patricia Arquette, and The Straight Story

But it was with Mulholland Drive that Lynch hit his straps again. What was initially a 2 hour pilot for a TV show, Lynch re-designed and shot - turning into an exposition of what psychiatrists call a "manifest dream" In recognition of this amazing achievement, Lynch once again got nominated for an Oscar, but lost out to that jackass Richie Cunningham.....

recently, Lynch has been not doing much with regards to new films, but has been touring with his new band, working on his hella cool website and overseeing DVD transfers for his films. If only he got off his can and made another film !

Huh, what an unprovoked and unnecessary slam. I wasn't even aware that Rogue15 was being a smartass.

Do you need a hug?

Perhaps I over-estimated him then and instead of being a smart-ass he was just too stupid to actually read the thread and what the topic was about. If that is the case then I apologise.

Anyway! David Lynch!

I love Wild At Heart, it's such a great movie. From heads being blown off with shotguns to Elvis songs to badly done broken noses to Nicholas Cage insinuating gentlemen are homosexual. It's all there.

I dont know about Idel needing a hug, but Rogue 15 and Doomie seemed intent in saying "You cant make a thread about another one...." whithout actually clicking it to see that thread had nothing to do with this topic, and thus Idel was perfectly justified in starting this here, on my recommendation :)

nonetheless :p

I love Wild At Heart, one of the two Lynch films not written by him and based on books written by Barry Gifford. I love the 'wizard of Oz' motif that runs through the film. coolage

Hello idel, welcome to Yoda's Swamp. This place is populated by old school swampies who know what they are talking about. Starting a topic here that was previously started in another forum, is perfectly fine, but don't just link to another forum, that is just lazy posting on your part. Starting a new thread around here requires at least some bit of description for a topic. Might I suggest the copy/paste feature? Also, name calling is a no no around these parts.

That being said, play nice, have fun and enjoy! :)

I'm not a David Lynch fan. At all. But umm...To sort of be on topic, the band Fantomas did a cover called Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me on their album The Directors Cut. And it was grand. To be a little on the off topic, settle down kids. It's the net. No need for all this fussing and fighting, or something. Save that aggression for people in the real world.

Grooves, please click that linky, and you will see that Idels thread in teh EU forum has *nothing* to do with David Lynch. This thread resulted from a passing comment he made on my av/siggy :D I think we have to be more accomodating to new members, lest they think we are all crazy ! :) I

del, come back now y'hear, we need more Scots around here :) *winks at Bawbag*

CapN - obviously Mike and Co from the fantomas must be particularly fond of FWWM to have made a song about. Anthrax made a song called "the Black Lodge" which is an damn evil place in FWWM/Twin peaks....too bad it was a shyte song :(

For anyone making interested in seeing some Lynch, check out Blue Velvet first :) I think if anyone watched Fire Walk With Me without knowing about Twin Peaks and Lynch in detail, it'd be a bit confusing :(

A thread for fans to discuss the works, movies and genius of David Lynch.

Perhaps, I should have said "This is a thread on the interwebs for anyone who wishes to talk about David Lynch. There was a conversation in another thread in which a rather friendly forumer suggested I start a topic about it in here. Please don't beat me." :p

Ok, no hard feelings anyway to Rogue15. I'm not one to keep a silly argument going (if you can even call this an argument). But yay!, a messageboard that is active with more than 3 posts a day on Lucasboards.

Fantomas are brilliant and that is indeed my fave Fantomas song. Everything Mike Patton touches is gold. Have you heard his project with Rahzel? I saw them last summer and it had to be the weirdest most crazy act I've ever seen. Good though. :D

No I haven't heard it. I'm a big fan of Pattons work. So I'll definately give it a spin. Thanks for the heads up.

Not only that, but the season 1 set did *not* have the pilot episode :( Stupid me has the US set, if I was patient enough, the Australian set has the pilot in it ! BAH !
