Do you get an error message, or do you see a window with a folder in it? If you see a folder, double-click it again and see if a list of files show up. Keiko
First I see this .Rar then I see, %*&^TGDUJHBDO*&^IU#UHJKJLU(*D&IJI)(*A$)(&*&^Y in a whole bunch of alien letters.

Darth333
Try uninstalling and reinstalling Winrar again. If Winrar doesn't automatically launch when you double click your .rar files, then open winrar and look for the file you want to open via winrar's file menu. Go here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm Click the very first link = WinRAR 3.42 Once downloaded, you'll need to double-click it to install. Once installed, try opening another ".rar" file such as a mod. Then see if you're still having the problem. I'm confused as to why and exactly what point in the process you're seeing these characters?? I know you're frustrated, but try no to spam the threads with 'emoticon' rage, that'll get you in a deeper mess -------------- ::EDIT:: previewed my post and I see that Darth333 beat me to it hehe

Know anything else? I'm sick of this thing not working:mad: ! I honestly don't know why it wouldn't be working. The only other thing I can think of is do you have WinZip installed on your system as well? If so, check to make sure it isn't WinZip that's the culprit. I ran into a problem with WinZip trying to open my .rar files instead of WinRar. Do as Darth333 suggested and 1) open WinRar. 2)From there, use the OPEN function to browse to a .rar file and try opening it that way. Other than that I'm at a complete loss... sorry

Does this occur when you click a hyperlink in your internet browser or when you double-click on a .rar file that you have on your HDD? If the former, then you should right click the link and choose Save As... and save it to your hard drive. Then try to open it.
Leviathan
Personally, I prefer to use PowerArchiver which can be downloaded at the following adress : http://www.powerarchiver.com/download/ This software can open *.RAR files, but cannot create this kind of files. (But, it is its only defect !)

"I'm Locked up!" If you've tried everything suggested here, then the .rar itself might be corrupted. Try re-downloading the file. If you still have problems then there is only one other possiblity...user error. Unfortunately, none of us will be able to help with that one Good luck to you. tk102
Using WinRAR, can you make your own .rar file? If so, can you then open your own .rar file? If so, then WinRAR is working fine. Your browser may not be handling the .rar extension correctly. If you use Netscape, go to Edit: Preferences: Navigator: Helper Applications. Click the New Type button and fill the following info: MIME Type: application/x-rar-compressed Description: WinRAR file Extension: rar Select Open with Default Application and then click Browse and locate the WinRAR.exe file. If you use Internet Explorer, try downloading this .reg file and double click it from Windows Exploer. It will merge the correct handling of the .rar MIME type. rar.zip
