Leper Messiah
which do people in america typically learn on? i think that people should learn on manual because i find it encourages much better awareness on what you doing but with automatic because you can do it in your sleep virtually, many people pay far less attention in general to what theyre doing on the road. lukeiamyourdad
I don't think so. People still have to pay attention to the road or they'll crash or something. Besides, living in a northern country with lots of snow during the winter, I can safely say manual ain't fun in the snow. That's pretty much why you don't see a lot of people using manual here. lukeiamyourdad
It's no more trouble then anything really. Just a question of habit.

BongoBob
I taught myself how to drive an auto last saturday when we had my cousins wedding. My mom and lil bro were in the wedding and my dad was at wrok, adn we were late. "she said it's times like these that I wish you could park the ca." So I said I would figure it out, and bet her a dollar that I would not only do it, but not crash and park real well. I got a dollar needless to say. I am waiting until next week when my dad is gonna teach me to drive manual.
El Sitherino
Manual is easy, it's just a matter of getting in the habbit of shifting that's difficult.

El Sitherino
*your name here*? Well it's true, you just gotta get into the habbit of shifting gears. Identifying when you should start to shift, all that fun stuff.
kipperthefrog
is manual easier to maintain or cheaper to replace or less likely to go out than automatic transmition? otherwise, why would any one want anything besides an auto transmition? El Sitherino
Manual is the best for racing. And some people were raised on manuals, and so it's more natural for them. As for price, it depends on the type and quality of the transmission. Though often manual will run you up more.
BongoBob
I want a Mazda miata with a manual transmission, and that's the exact reason I really really want to learn stick. Plus it's in my dad's truck, the original pimped ride(1' black and white tv with tuner biznatches ).
