Well..

I finally saw the movie a few days ago.

Things I liked:

Christain Bale. Despite my doubts, he is the best actor to ever play the part, he plays it like he understands the character, rather than just excited to put on the freaking costume. By the time he finally dones the costume, everything just falls into place.

Realism. This is the epitome of a "what if" movie. If Batman were real, where is his motivation, and how does he put this whole persona together? No stone is left unturned in this concept.

Gary Oldman. Probably the most underated character actor in Hollywood, due to the fact, that he is always playing creepy villian roles. In this film, Lt. Gordon is the ONE cop that Gotham's crime network cannot corrupt. For that reason, Batman and Gordon quickly form a bond for the common good. It was refreshing to see Oldman play a part where he is not a villian, but the LAST of the good guys just trying to do the right thing at all costs.

Michael Kain as "Alfred" the butler. In Burton's film, Alfred appears to be the "father figure" so to speak, where as in this film, Alfred is more of the family freind, who makes a point to be there for "Batman", regardless of the tast at hand. Nice touch.

Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox...not quite "M" from the James Bond Legacy, but yet fulfills a similar roll, as a man who works in the dungeons of Wayne Enterprises developing military weapons that the military cannot afford. Fox is both eager and curious to help Bruce do what needs to be done.

Dislikes:

Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes. A love interest was probably supposed to materialize, but her role as a District Attourney is shottey at best, and Katie seems nothing more than a pretty face, not all too different from Kim Basinger's roll as Vikki Vale. Fortunately, a romance never quite materializes between her and Bruce.

Lack of Villain: This movie, you don't really know who the ultimate villain is until the last quater of the film. Thankfully, said actors don't do the typical "over the top" thing which only seemed to work for Jack Nicholson in the Buron films, but other actors only seemed to try "too hard".

Atmosphere. After Tim Burton left the franchise, Joel Shumacker stepped in and made the films a virtual "costume party" for A-list actors, which took the entire Frank Miller enspired concept of the "Dark Knight", into a virtual who's who of A-list actors. That is where the Batman franchise went down in flames. Sure, Jack Nicholson might have stole the movie as "The Joker", but every film since, had to combine a rediculous amount of villians to in order to keep that formula alive. Sure, Keaton did a fine job of keeping Batman as a man full of mistery, but Nolan's Batman has both will and purpose.

The Batmobile. Things made since seeing the original batmobile as a combat ready ultra-sports car. In this film, the Batmobile is basically a suped up Hummer, with alot of military gadgets installed. I don't know, but the high powered sports car seemed only natural. This is one of many cases where I wanted to grab Nolan, and say....ok...enough, we get it...ok?

I never thought of the "new" Batmobile as a suped-up hummer. For me, it was always just an earlier version that was clunkier because the technology hadn't evolved to make it all sleek. Anyhow, this was a great movie, as good as, if not better than the original and certainly not quite what I was expecting.

If I understand correctly, they're the same thing. Well, actually it's only called Batman Begins, but the author of the thread made this when the movie wasn't out yet so maybe wasn't sure of the name.
