McCusto
How do you take solid screenshots with an AVI file? I tried WinAmp, Windows Media, and DivX player to take screenshots but they all just follow along in the movie. I want to take screenshots for my sig from the Opening Battle. Any help would be appreciated, -McCusto

Astrotoy7
"avi" is describes a broad index of a-v filetypes. You have divx-avi, dv-avi, ms-avi etc etc. Proggies like powerdvd, windvd will do a good job of screenshotting most types. Even WMP will work on some filetypes with the "Ctrl + I" mentioned above. there are some morse specialist avi-cap proggies out there like AVIedit etc, but I cant think of any that are freeware... if you want some caps for a siggy, just PM me and let me know what you're after (by 'opening battle' I assume youre referring to ROTS) mtfbwya
McCusto
Yes, I do mean the opening battle from ROTS. But I DO have the opening video *looks around and whistles innocently* I will try to browse on some of those programs. And only my ani vs obi duel is in Avi. But the opening battle parts (One is the battle, one is the invisible hand) are in .WMV format Thank you all for the help. I have never seen such a community forums that are as nice as these. With the exception of rebelscum.com edit: Appearently I do have WinDVD 5, however Screenshots still don't work with the usual Prnt-Screen. Is there a certain button I need to press to capture a screenshot with WinDVD 5?
coupes.
I beleive you have to press P to take screenshots. The simplest way to know for sure is always to look in the help files of the software or to google it though.
McCusto
Cool, I will try that.
Astrotoy7
I use windvd7. Im not 100% sure that windvd had a capture function. If it did its near the top right of the viewing pane and is looks like a camera mtfbwya
Zappa_0
You could also try fraps. It works for me, but the image is a bmp file.
McCusto
Hmm, I was going to try Fraps, but my main problem was that I could not get it to work, I will try again
Astrotoy7
btw, as you have noticed, you cannot take screenshots of your desktop when videos are playing, the image will NOT include whatever is playing in the video. If you want images for a gif, you'll need some software specificially for that. you can also change BMPs to JPGs quite easily in mspaint feel free to pm me if you need any more assistance McCusto mtfbwya
McCusto
Well, I FINALLY figured out why it worked only once. I took 1 screenshot with the Ani vs. Obi-Wan duel, which is in AVI format, and it worked. I did my Opening Space Battle with WMP, didn't work, I found out because of it's file type, WMV. So I converted it to Avi, and now it works like a charm. Thank you ALL for the help Pretty soon I will have a new sig edit: This will do, for now How do ya like it? I would use a different font, comic sans, the one you used is probably a bit too light hearted for those scenes. It would look a little neater/more balanced, if those caps you took were side by side or more balanced left and right... but hey, thats just me , its your sig, you can do whatever you want !! (as long as its not too big!!). The swamp has a thread for help with avs and siggys, check it out for cool ideas/help and suggestions mtfbwya

El Sitherino
I'm going to play naive and assume you didn't pirate the movie, but merely acquired clips that were gathered together by people using various promotional footage.

Leviathan
Why would you not use a video acquisition's program ? You could view each frame of your movie, and thus, be able to extract some of them...
Zappa_0
Probally cause he is really not into all this grabbing pics and stuff.
