Who is the Greatest Rock Band?

Shouldn't "favorite rock band" be right up there with religion and politics as thing to never discuss in public? *shrug*

Since I don't particularly care for rock music, I'll have to go with Depeche Mode. And isn't Green Day considered a punk band?

'Punk' is technically(sp) 'punk rock'

And with me its a toss up between

and

Well, I consider Depeche Mode to be rock, albeit soft rock.

Soft rock? Like Whitney Houston, Michael Bolton, and Phil Collins? Wanna try that one again?

Maybe you meant "alternative rock".

Not really, no. Here is my personal ranking system...

Whitney Houston, Michael Bolton, and Phil Collins are/were either pop rock and/or adult contemporary rock. Depeche Mode is soft and/or ambient rock. Iron Maiden, Kiss, and Metallica are heavy metal, which is a form of rock. The Ramones are punk rock. Green Day is pop-punk rock. Savatage is a fusion of metal and classical (but still in the rock genre). This is just to name a few.

@InsaneSith: Bowie's cool. I'm more a Peter Murphy fan.

Do you mean David Bowie? He's a classic!
