Lady Jedi
Now, that all (or at least most) of us have watched the DVD a time or ten, I figured it was time for a thread about it. Personally, I thought that ROTS stood up to the second viewing much better than the previous sequels. Yes, there are plenty of cheesy parts, and just stupid things that don't make much sense (to me at least ), but it's Star Wars. We'll always enjoy it despite the many shortcomings. The acting was still not too great, but I was pleased to at least see some emotion from the characters. That is worth sooo much for any movie. Plus the end battle is just too awesome. How can you complain about that?
Jeff
I've already watched the movie 4 times. I love watching it. Definitely my favorite in the series. Yeah, the acting was so-so, but the movie being Star Wars makes up for that. I thought that the great acting at the end of the movie made up for the ok acting throughout the rest of the movie. Obi-Wan's acting made me think it was actually happening it was so emotional (OK, I didn't think it was real, but it was portrayed very good). El Sitherino
I've seen the movie so many times, if it were sugar, I would now be in a diabetic coma for about 10-20 years. As for overall quality of the film. I don't expect too much from Star Wars, it's a camp series, always has been, always will be. That's why I love it, it's escapism with a fantasy we can relate to. All I expect are cheeseball moments, lightsabers, blasters, and droids.
boinga1
Eh... it's decent. I would have liked it more when I was younger, and it is the best of the prequels. But it really could have been much better, just with a little better acting. It's excellent visually, although some of the scenes didn't make any sense. Samuel Dravis
I loved the end fight especially when Obi says, "You were my brother, Anakin!" And Obi-wan, IMO, is the best character in the movie. Come to think of it, in all of the films, only Obi-wan has the awesome factor consistently... YAY! Lady Jedi
I loved the end fight especially when Obi says, "You were my brother, Anakin!" That's probably my favorite part of the entire series. Obi-wan is so deeply hurt that you just want to give him a hug, and kick Anakin's ass. And Obi-wan, IMO, is the best character in the movie. Come to think of it, in all of the films, only Obi-wan has the awesome factor consistently... So true. If someone could rock too much, he would be it...with Boromir of course. As for this one not being "dark enough", I think that it was done pretty well; we have to remember that George Lucas is insane, so sometimes things come out a little odd. Plus, little kids adore these movies, and any more dark than it was and it would have caused some trouble.
El Sitherino
Indeed, he barely made pg-13 with this as it is.

Obi-wan is so deeply hurt that you just want to give him a hug, and kick Anakin's ass. Which is unfortunate, because there's nothing left to kick. Plus, little kids adore these movies, and any more dark than it was and it would have caused some trouble. It doesn't need anything to be added to make it darker. The tone could have felt more serious if it was not offset by so much levity. Take away a couple gags and it'd be much better. That being said, I really loved the deleted scene with the beard tugging and all that. That one I laughed at. They should have kept that in and made the movie 30mins longer. Lady Jedi
Which is unfortunate, because there's nothing left to kick. Sure there was. You'd just have to be creative. It doesn't need anything to be added to make it darker. The tone could have felt more serious if it was not offset by so much levity. Take away a couple gags and it'd be much better. For God's sake, think of the CHILDREN! ... That being said, I kind of agree, but I've only watched this one twice. Give me a few more watchings and I'll be cringing like always, yet enjoying it all the way. That being said, I really loved the deleted scene with the beard tugging and all that. That one I laughed at. They should have kept that in and made the movie 30mins longer. Is that on the DVD features? I shall look into this.... Hermie
So, tell us poor, late sods, how is the extra material? are the new scenes integrated into the movie?
El Sitherino
No new scenes are integrated. Yoda arriving on Dagobah however is ****ing sweet.
toms
I loved the end fight especially when Obi says, "You were my brother, Anakin! Would have been much more moving if you ever really got the impression from the previous films that it was true. As it was it should have been "You were that annoying kid who kept whining at me, Anakin!" No new scenes are integrated. Yoda arriving on Dagobah however is ****ing sweet. Thats the first thing i've heard that actually makes me want to go and get the dvd. I thought it was a soild film, and held up to a second viewing a lot better than Ep1 (which was actually painful a 2nd time around) and Ep2 (which was dull a 2nd time around, until it got going towards the end). I think it suffered from having the PTs get off to such a slow start that it was , in effect, starting from a shakey foundation. It managed to drag things to a reasonable height, but it would have been so much better if it had been building on solid foundations from the previous two - then just think what heights it could have achieved. As it is i've no desire to watch it again in the near future, because i fear it will wear out its welcome in the same way the first two did. Jeff
Yoda arriving on Dagobah however is ****ing sweet. This was definitely my favorite deleted scene. If any of the deleted scenes were to be included in the movie, this would be it. The first deleted scene with Shaak Ti is ****, the ones with the senators are just okay, and and the one with Mace, Obi and Yoda isn't as good as the scene in the movie it would have replaced had it made the cut. Samuel Dravis
The first deleted scene with Shaak Ti is ****You have no sense of humor. I thought the Yoda one was ok, but did it really add anything to the movie? No. For once I agree with GL.
Cmdr. Cracken
I was listening to the directors commentary, and they actually cut out parts of the Obi-Wan VS. Anakin throw-down on Mustaafar. I wanna see the entire thing, damnit!
Jeff
^ Yeah, I know one part they cut out was that Obi-Wan and Anakin somehow switch lightsabers. You can see this when Anakin is choking Obi-Wan and holding his arm with his other hand, in one clip Obi-Wan has his own lightsaber, but in another he has Anakins.
