Little depressed...

One of my cats is acting very badly today. It's kind of a grim reminder that it's like 5 years to the day that I had to put my other cat down for acting the same way, just before 9/11. :(

This cat is much younger and healthier than that one was at the time, though,.. so if she doesn't snap out of it by morning, I'm gonna get her up to the vets right after I get back from the dentist's to have my (remaining) stitch pulled.

Still, it was another reminder I didn't need... bad enough that I've had to re-live 9/11 all week.

Cat seems a little better today. Moving around a little more, and seemed to try to eat, and I saw her drinking a little water.

I'll wait until I get home from work now to decide to take her to the vet's or not.

EDIT:

She ate and drank a little tonight, and seemed a bit more energetic than she'd been the last couple of days (at least for a while...) so I decided to give her until morning to snap out of it. If she's still acting dicey then, I'll get her to the vet's first thing in the morning before I head off to work.

Taking the cat off to the vet's this morning. She just isn't snapping out of it this time (or not quickly enough to make me comfortable...)

Wish me luck.

UPDATE:

Well, I picked her up this afternoon. She doesn't seem a whole lot better. Maybe a little bit. That's hopeful at least.

They gave her subcutaneous fluids, and an antibiotic shot, and are running a battery of blood tests. I won't know results until tomorrow.

They also gave me some special food, that's supposed to be super nutritious, and also entice them to eat when they have no appetite. She ate a couple of mouthfuls when we first got home, but I haven't been able to get her to eat any more since.

If she doesn't pick up by tomorrow, and the blood tests don't reveal anything major, I'm supposed to bring her back for X-rays, to see if she has an internal blockage.

I really hope she gets over this, soon. This cost me over 200 bucks today, and I can imagine that X-rays are going to be at least that much more. Not that I wouldn't spend it, probably... but I sure wish I don't have to. :(

Well, the blood tests show what should be a very healthy cat.

She's still not eating on her own yet, though. Every day I have to give her 2 pills (an antibiotic, and a steroid/ appetite accelerator) and force feed her fluids and food.

It's been a hell of a lot of fun. For both of us. (Ever try to force-feed a cat that doesn't want to eat? It's surprisingly less fun than it sounds.)

Even if she lives through this whole ordeal, it might end up killing me... from the blood loss alone, not to mention the need to skin-graft my entire arms, and then some.

She took a startling turn for the worse this morning, and I rushed her back to the vet's for those x-rays. They didn't want to do anything to her since she was in such a bad state, and I had to transport her over to a bigger, better equipped Vet Hospital in Weymouth.

They checked her out there, and did the x-rays. The doctor said they looked very, very serious, and that it would take extensive and invasive procedures to even stand a chance of possibly bringing her back. Not wanting to see her suffer any more than she had already this week, I made the decision to have her put down. Before they could get back there to set that up, she was already gone. That's how close I guess she was.

They think she could have possibly had cancer... but I guess it really doesn't matter much now.

She was a good cat.

I feel guilty now for not having her put down earlier in the week... but I just didn't know. I really hoped she had a chance to pull through it. I'm sorry for making her suffer through all the forced feedings and medical procedures now.

I wish I could have said goodbye better too... Oh well... she's better off now. No more suffering for her.

I'll post some pics when I can find them and get them up on the web.

Sorry for all the posts in a row.

EDIT: Here are some pics.

First: Thanks everybody. It really helps.

Second: I don't think it's my imagination... I'm having the worst couple of weeks I've had in a very long time.

You already know about my adventures in dental fun,.. as well as what happened to my kitty.

After the last post I made here, I went down the cellar to put the pet carrier away. I found that a bottle of extra-strength chlorine bleach had burst or cracked open on the shelf I was keeping it on, dripping on the floor, as well as the shelves of interesting chemicals below it. I had to spend about 40 minutes cleaning that up, burning my eyes, nose, and throat in the process. Every breath I take still smells like I just got out of a swimming pool.

Yesterday I went to work. My boss, who is also a pretty good friend of mine, decided yesterday to resign due to a lot of office political crap going on above him. He was confident they were planning on firing him, so he quit before they could do it.

He pretty much checked out of the shift at that point, leaving me to do essentially everything myself all day. I was so busy all day that I never got a chance to eat anything... finally getting to eat breakfast around 7 o'clock at night. I felt on the verge of fainting by then.

Plus, in his stress and frustration, he laid a lot of really heavy **** on my head, basically saying that I might have been able to save his job if I had only gone over to H.R. and gone to bat for him, taking his position on everything even though none of the issues have little if any impact on my job. (Theoretically, I shouldn't even know about any of those particular issues in my position.) I'll chalk the stress of the moment to explaining that accusation,.. but it was crap I had no desire to deal with. It made for a very, very long day.

He left early, leaving me to lock up alone... which seemed to take forever to get the band out. When I got out to my car around midnight, I pulled out of my space, started driving down the alleyway where I was parked, and realized something was wrong. I got out and looked around my car. I had a flat. Ya-freakin'-hoo.

I backed up to the lot I was at, and pulled out my cell phone and tried to get the Triple-A. The number kept coming to a non-AAA message machine. I tried for several minutes with no success. I finally got fed up and pulled out the chintzy little jack and spare tire kit they give you. In the dark I spent about a 1/2 hour trying to get the flat off, but I couldn't get the last lug (the security one) off. I pretty much stripped it in the attempt.

Desperate, since it was now too late to get home by subway, I try AAA again, and finally get through. I explain the situation, and they told me that some one was on their way... in about an hour.

I stood waiting for the truck at the end of the alleyway for about 40 minutes. Which is a lot of fun in downtown Boston on a late Saturday night, I'll tell you.

When he finally came, he was less than useless. He didn't have anything in the truck to help me. Not even a can of "Fix-A-Flat." His pump wasn't working, and he couldn't get the last lug off either. "Sorry." Yeah, swell. What the hell am I paying AAA for anyway?

After he left, I got fed up. It was now almost 1 am. I didn't want to go back and sleep in the office overnight. I took out the little compressor I have that plugs into the lighter jack to see if it would even inflate. It did,.. slowly. Seemed to hold it, too... at least enough to suit my purposes. I just got in and drove home. It was almost flat again by the time I pulled in, and I probably destroyed a really expensive tire, and maybe the rim too, but I was in no mood to stay in Boston any longer. I felt like I was on verge of a breakdown by the time I got through my door. Exhausted, hungry and stressed out of my mind. At 2:30 in the morning.

Damn I'm glad I don't have to work today. I don't think I could take it.

Now I got to try to find a place that will replace a tire and be able to to drill out a stripped security lug. On a Sunday. And as if my credit cards aren't taxed out enough this month so far.

It might wait until tomorrow. I'll call in to work, and try to get it inflated enough to haul it over to the dealership in the morning. I have to get up early to do the trash anyway.

Things have got to pick up for me soon... or I really will have that breakdown. :(

Hang in there, edlib...

I've had a Star Wars weekend, myself. Picked up the new DVDs. Watched all the DVD versions, which I've never seen before, and the theatrical version of ANH. Think I'll watch theatrical Empire and Jedi tonight. Haven't seen the original versions in years. Also been playing some Lego Star Wars II. Great game. I haven't had a weekend like this in a while...just staying in watching movies and being lazy. I do have to mow my lawn, though, and it hasn't been mowed in three weeks because of heavy rain. It looks like Endor out there  Guess I'll go start on that now...

I've had a Star Wars weekend...

I need one of those! Sounds like fun! I need me some fun!

I should plan one of those soon.

Next weekend I'm not working.

I have yet still to buy the new DVD collection.

What format did you buy the Lego game? PC or console?

Hmm... it's been a while since I bought a Gamecube game...

I never played the first one either. Maybe it's time I kick up my collection a bit.

Tell me: are there any Star Wars games out there you don't own, Keyan? ;)

Seems like from your posts that you either have them, or have played them all. That's pretty damn impressive.

I have a lot of them, but all in all I've only just scratched the surface it seems. There are probably more out of print now than I have ever played.

I have all of them that have been on Nintendo consoles. As for PC...I have all the good ones :) I'm actually not into RPGs and RTSs, so I skipped games like Force Commander (which sucked anyway, judging from the demo) and KOTOR (which everyone says is great, but just isn't my thing).

I actually don't do much gaming these days. But when a new Star Wars game comes out, I always check it out. I wasn't even planning to buy a GameCube in the first place, but then I saw Rogue Leader, and that sold me.

Cool. I haven't doing a whole lot of gaming either, lately.

I still want to check out the KOTOR games one of these days, though.

Well, I'm in much better spirits tonight, than last. Things actually went pretty good for me today.

I think I was due.

The day wasn't completely without some issues, though: My mom took me out for breakfast this afternoon, to help me get over all this crap that has fallen in my lap over the last couple of days.

But the waitress we had at breakfast was just about the worst I think I have ever encountered. She was like one of the waitstaff you get at one of those novelty restaurants where everybody is deliberately rude to you... except this was at the International House of Pancakes!

This just occurred to me:

It's strange... The best waitress I have ever had and the worst I have ever had (so far, anyway...) were both at IHOPs. The absolute best was in Hollywood, a couple of blocks from the Capitol Records building. And the worst I can remember was today, at the local one here in Quincy. Hmmm...

I hope she was just having a bad day (or week like I'm having,..) so I chose to cut her some slack and give her the benefit of the doubt (but the bare minimum of a tip, however...) It really got to my mom though: She was a professional waitress for over 20 years. I think she talked to the manager.

Went grocery shopping afterwards, and the store was totally packed, and there was almost nobody checking out, or bagging at the few open registers.

But those are tiny little pet peeves, microscopic daily hassles, and actually pretty easy to laugh about. I probably wouldn't have even paid them much notice them on any other normal week.

Remember when Denny's got sued for not seating black people? It wasn't because they racist. Denny's doesn't seat or serve anyone. I once waited two and a half hours just to prove a point. My cousin once got seated and then no waitress showed up ever after they got their drinks. They left (without paying, not that I can blame them) after two hours.

i had someone custy yell at me on saturday for his pictures not being back....i yelled at him, telling him he should have read right on the dropbox about when his pics would be back. people up here must get a diploma for knowing how to get easily mad.

another thing that's going to suck in november...on black friday......

Yeah... I'm not much of an IHOP fan either... but where else are you going to get breakfast food at 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon?

The little Greek diner that I would normally go to for breakfast closes at 2.

Guess we should have gotten an earlier start...

Dropped my car off at the tire place directly across the street from the subway station on my way to work this morning.

"Patch the tire if you can, replace it if you can't, and remove all those idiotic security lugs. I'll take my chances."

Pretty clear, I think. If I had said that to you, you should be fairly confident of exactly what I expected of you,.. right?!??

I get the call an hour or so later: "We couldn't fix that tire." (Big surprise there. )Then: "All the others should be replaced too."

Uh,.. no. :dozey: They're fine. Yes, they are the originals, but they're OK. Just do what I asked you to, please. "Oh, they're really in bad shape..."

*Sigh* Why does everything always have to be this damn difficult?

My credit cards are already pretty taxed this month due to dental work, prescriptions, and vet-office visits. I really don't need to be arguing with a tire salesman at this point. One tire is really gonna be more than expensive enough at this point.
