Nedak
I looked all over the place and could not find a thread like this so.... Do you think that their could ever be Pod Racers or cars like the ones in Corusant?

Doomie
Well, you can't really tell what we will invent over the next hundred years, but I don't foresee any flying cars in the near future.
Prime
Why would we need them?

90SK
It isn't going to happen in our lifetime.
MachineCult
Not podracers, they are ridiculous. They're just a pair of jet engines that somehow float. I saw a thing on the discovery channel about transportation in the future and they were talking about a vehicle that used magnets to fly great distances in a very short time. Wouldn't be much like the airspeeder though.
Hallucination
Could there be yes? Will there be? Not unless Bill Gates gets some really good drugs. And I mean really good drugs.
El Sitherino
Well, you can't really tell what we will invent over the next hundred years, but I don't foresee any flying cars in the near future. Funny, we already have them. They just cost far too much to be practical, and they aren't exactly a perfected craft. That said, at this point, there is no need for such inventions. Could there be yes? Will there be? Not unless Bill Gates gets some really good drugs. And I mean really good drugs. How exactly would Bill Gates doing drugs get anything done? The man doesn't exactly invest in anything other than his own company, and even then, not anywhere near as much as people assume.
RC-1162
podracers? if you can invent airspeeders, which use repulsorlift engines, you can just attatch their repulsors to two AirBus Jet engines and connect it with cable to a modified open horse chariot with controls fittted in seriously though, i dont think airspeeders wont come up, what with the congested roads, especially in bahrain. they could use solar energy, since at higher altitudes, more sunlight comes unblocked by clouds if there are any. podracers might be possible to make in the future but i dont think anybody would be dumb enough to risk his life in a race that has no rules. Darth_Terros
I dunno about flying cars the saftey aspect would be far to dangerous hell its bad enough when i normal car crashes, then you'd have all the stuff about where you can and cant fly if people had flying cars they could easily just fly over secret military bases *area 51?* and such also look at all the legal stuff and check you have to do before a plane can even take off! Oh the flying car they have now is just a noisy *think of the noise polution!* bit of crap really its barely stable in the air!
Katarn07
Seeing as there are already hovercraft, the technology is capable of being perfected though the fact flying cars can be made is not in question. Nor is it you being nuts (most of us know the answer to that ). It's practicality as Insane Sith said. What would the point be? Maybe in the military (I can't really see much more use than what they have going for them now), but not for civilian use.
Darth_Terros
Seeing as there are already hovercraft, But hovercrafts and flying cars are completely different really and how noisy are hovercrafts? i think before we get any where near flying cars we need to invent repulsorlift engines
MachineCult
The question is, what is a repulsorlift engine? and how could we possibly invent one?
Darth_Terros
The question is, what is a repulsorlift engine? and how could we possibly invent one? Its what makes the vehicles in starwars fly by pushing agaisnt the planets gravity essentially repulsing it. As far as inventing one .... i dont know. MachineCult
Not just vehicles, but very small things like Yodas hovering chair or recon droids. Something like that could not be invented in the forseeable future.

Katarn07
But hovercrafts and flying cars are completely different really and how noisy are hovercrafts? i think before we get any where near flying cars we need to invent repulsorlift engines As I said, there's technology to already make vehicles float. It can be perfected to be less noisy and float higher, ala Swoop Bikes and Landspeeders. Those too, I am assuming, are included in the question.
