Note to moderators: I wasn't sure where to post this poll since the only relevant sub-forum of "clans" is not suitable for the reasons mentioned below. Anyway, you may move it where it should be (if this forum is wrong).

Note to site admin (DMUK): This is not a way to "steal" people from this forum. I'm willing to implement the whole idea into EaW.net site (with separate sub-forum covering it); yet, i posted it as "stand-alone" feature implemented within my personal site, since in the main EaW.net there's such link. The whole idea is not against EaW mp community, nor it demands "this site or this" decisions.

---

Since EaW is approaching and since the demo will burn many players' keyboards and mice, i think the most mayor feeling that the demo will leave unsatisfied hanging "on the air" is the confrontation of a real, human player. True, AI might be quite smart, but it's a simple AI - computer with limited imagination; a real human player is just unpredictable and this is the challenge of mp gaming.

On the other hand, four problems concerning mp may arise. First of all, the possibilty factor of finding persons that want to play a nice, decent and exciting gaming (unfortunately spoilers are everywhere...). Secondly, you may want to play with a player on your level; neither a superman nor a newbie. Moreover, it possible to find noone, few, or no player willing-to-play the time you log in. And finally, after you managed to organize an 4v4 game, one guy with 56k between them makes the whole game go "out of sync".

So, here is what i thought for everyone that wants to be sure that the day & time he has the mood to play online, he will play a nice game. For any suspicions that might arise, i state that im not talking about a ladder (of which there will be many), neither clan training...

To make it clear in few words (and because is over midnight here :)), i was thinking of creating a section to my personal site (check note at the beginning) for an organised "training" (mp matches is better) system. Whether you belong to a clan or you just want to play when you want to do so, this site will organise all the matches according to people's preferences, few of which that come to my mind are:

1. Time zone

2. Preferred time/day of the week for match(es)

3. Preferred opponents' level of experience

4. Preferred opponents' age

5. Preferred opponents' country

etc

The system will actually work as an "agenta"; "-I have a scheduled match for Monday midnight with X player (who's statistics/info are...) or with X,Y,Z,... players" and such. It will take in account all players' preferences, it will schedule matches and will ask (through email) for the players of the match if they accept the challenge. It will also allow postpones of matches (for any reason, you want "apologise" like in relevant military actions), rematches, complaints about inappropriate behaviour etc etc. Ofcourse, from time to time and through democratic procedures (polls this is :)) we can hold tourneys etc.

The only thing which will be seriously taken in account and will end to permanent kicks and bans, unless not corrected, will be inappropriate content and behaviour, of any nature, in-game or out-of game (game=match). As clearly mentioned below, the only purpose is to create a system for "guaranteed" matches when each one will play when he wishes. Also, it does not say the people that will "subscribe" (no misunderstanding here, there won't be any fee to pay!) that are restricted of joining clans, follow their clan trainings, compete in other tourneys and ladders; it will be created only for the reasons mentioned above.

To conclude, what is left to ask and which is the purpose of this thread, is whether or not you are willing to help such a movement. Because, on first basis, the whole schedule of matches/creation of site will be one person's work who has many other real-life occupations and studing and, apparently, this will take up some time, that's why i'd like first to see how you regard such an idea. Later on, it's over 100% sure that more people will help out (it's not only the schedule of the matches after all).

Well, i hope i was clear. Any questions are welcome. The creation or not of this feature will count mainly on this poll. If you poll "yes", please state your name too. You may post this to other forums too, but without taking out the "Note to site admin" clarification on the beginning(brancets are optional). Finally, i don't know if Petro is up for something like this (if yes then we're ok ad this is a locked thread); what i know for sure, is that they will set up tourneys and ladders, as many other sites.

I'm in, i love a good multiplayer match. I've had problems in the past with RTS Multiplayer games due to having newbie status, and suddenly being overwelmed by an attack you thought was ages away.

A good online training match should make things a lot easier.

i believe that playing against or with a really good player will make u better.Because u will learn what to do and make new strats.Playing someone that is ur same lvl wouldnt help u...but thats my opinion :)

Then you just state as preferred opponents' level higher than yours. Note that no preferance is static; all preferances may change dynamically from time to time if the player wants so.

The first rule of learning, particulally in strategy, is that you learn more from your mistakes than you do from your victories. Conistently playing against people your level or below will not do what needs to be done. You must have your strategies slaughtered and incinerated to shreds before you can learn how to change them. If you refuse to challenge yourself, then you will not learn.

Just a reminder. A person cannot claim to be a good player if all he does is consistently beat opponents who are of a lower skill than him. Keep this in mind when you attempt to "rate" people's levels of ability.

i agree with u lol i changed so many strats that i can beat someone easlily.I always did that for about a year but then i played with ppl that like a little bit better than me then went up a lvl and did the same thing. And the best thing is to watch recorded games of ppl that are really good and learn their strats or mabey change it up a bit.

Like fast teching and use air that are fast.

Strategy is so much fun, simply because it is so broad and diverse. For some people, speed is the name of the game, and if their forces aren't where they want them to be instantly, their strategies collapse and they fail. For others, they think a bit slower and can only handle the slower civs, but that doesn't make their strategies any less deadly. Then there are those who are patient hunters, those who jump into situations, those who like to feint, etc etc.

And yes, replays are an excellent way to learn strategy. Highly recommended.

Not just that Xyvik. If you play someone who only plays rebels then they will most likely know every trick in the book. I usually think that by playing both teams loads. Complete the single player on Extreme for both at least 20 times then nyou know how the units can be used- how to counter- best structure- etc. From this you can build your strategy around loads of alternatives: DS- Fighter rich fleet with a few powerfull Capital ships and loads of Smaller ships like Corvettes and Gunships. Not only will the ships help take out fighters they can get in pretty close and keep the enemy cruisers honest.

My Usual Mid-Research Rebellion Fleet was 2 Mon Cals, 1 Neb-Bs, 1 Assault Frigate, 2 Corellian Corvettes and a Gunship. Attatched to this was 5 Squads of X-wings 2 Awings and a Y-wing group. Usually was enough to take out the Fighters of the enemy fleet (Xs and As) then take the remaining units to take out the enemy fleet.

Usual Mid Reseach Imp Fleet was 3 Victory Star Destroyers, 2 Escort Frigates , 2 Carracks and a Lancer. That could pretty much own the smaller Rebel Fleets. ISDs are expensive remember that.

Anyone who expects to have a fleet of 10 ISDs shoudl walk out the door now. Why waste resources on One Unit?? More Smaller Destroyers can cause less damage and offer more targets for the rebels instead of a single large target.

I (personally) won't "rate" noone and nothing. You state what you think of yourself, you judge your abilities, you decide your preferances. The whole system will just schedule matches so that everyone is satisfied.

Same here(then if there is a rule to only have air units *space* like in starcraft I always owned since I know how to manage a fleet)

So I should do much better in a space skirmish than a ground 1

All righty, was just making sure to offer my experience in strategems in case there was a rating system :) If people rate themselves, then that leaves things much more open and, probably, hilarious. "I'm TEH B3ST!!!111" *guy loses in ten minutes*
