idontknow3300
My newest modding problem is that whenever I try to edit .utc files, and then save them, when I go into the game they are exactly the same as they were before I edited them. I have no idea why. help. I will now post the smashy guy.
LiquidZoo
Are you making sure to save them in your Override? Also, are you basing this off of items currently in your inventory (like on a save game)? If so, you will need to aquire a new copy of the item for the changes to show up. I would suggest using KSE to remove it from your inventory first.
idontknow3300
1. Yes, I'm saving them into to Override. 2. No, no, I'm talking about .utC files. If you're talking about items, you mean .utI files. Again, I post the smashy.
LiquidZoo
Oh...right My fault, I misread. What are you trying to change?
idontknow3300
For now I was just trying to test out a few things to see what I can do. Like right now I'm trying to make the Council guy, Dorak, into a rodian holding a vibroblade. But that isn't working. He just stays as master dorak, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Jackel
I believe you will have to load a save game from before you go in to that area for the first time. Otherwise it stays in your save game file and your changes wont take effect. Pretty sure thats right but try it out anyway and see what happens. Darkkender
I believe you will have to load a save game from before you go in to that area for the first time. Otherwise it stays in your save game file and your changes wont take effect. Pretty sure thats right but try it out anyway and see what happens. This is exactly the case Jackel. Once an item, creature, or placeable is spawned within a module it's data becomes saved within the saved game file. This is where learning scripting comes in handy. I keep a simple armband handy to launch a spawn script for any item, creature or placeable when I'm trying anything out. This armband stays in my game and I just throw the test versions of any of my new templates into the overide. If you use the script spawn method for testing I would recomend the following. have your script use a destroy object of the item you intend to spawn and then spawn the item that way you clear any instances out of your old save and then you can have your new version exist without any problems. Osuirof
idontknow3300 Maybe you didn`t edit proper Dorak file ? Editing .utc files, and placing them in override can be "dangerous", unless you just want to test something, not play.
Reclaimer
Did you save the .utc under the same name as it's tag? That might be the case.
Darth_Robinson
Jackel and Darkkender are right. It's not a file name issue or a problem with editing. I modded Dorak and had to revert to a saved game BEFORE Dantooine to make it work because the file was already saved in my current game. idontknow3300, your mod is probably fine, you just have to start the game over. Darth333
If you don't have a savegame from prior entering that module for the 1st time, you can also just go to another module, minimize your game (don't close it) and go to your swkotor folder. You should see a folder called gameinprogress. Inside this folder should be a file corresponding to the module in which Dorak was. Erase it (you can back it up first as this will mess up some variables). Then go back to your game and the modified Dorak should appear when you enter the module.
