Need assistance concerning a story I'm writing

writing my book, I ran into similar problems: trying to find original sounding names for common things. As a general rule, if something is old or archaic, words with the letters, I, E, Y, X, and T wrap around your mouth the right way. Like if you are just looking for a different word for magic, use more than one syllable. Xilen, Yeitres, Zetes, etc. If you are trying to describe the essence of magic, like what it is, not what it's manifested as if you get what I mean. Single syllable words work great for that with any old sounding letters. Xiev, Yex, Xen (but it's taken :D ) but stuff along that line. Anyways, you can use anything I listed. To my knowledge you won't be infringing on anyone

Psi is a reference to psionics which are completely different from magic. You could use Gifts for individual powers or The Weave to explain magic as a whole. Another favorite of mine is The Art - with the ephasis on THE, as it is believe to be the greatest artform known.

I've read far too many D&D novels.
