How many people remember this TV-Show...

I was scanning through the channels on Sunday, and I bumped into David Carradine. After watching this infomercial style PBS thing, I started to laugh about a TV Show flashback.

"Kung Fu: The Legend Continues"

"I am Caine, I will help you." - David Carradine

"I'm a cop, That's who I am. That's what I do."...."We're a team." - Chris Potter

How many people remember that show. Lol...

Ahh, I remember the original Kung Fu TV show, Grasshopper!

But my image of David Carradine was blown out of space when he was interviewed by Matt Lauer on an NBC morning show for some movie he did quite awhile back. He was either stoned, drunk, or both, and it was just painful to watch. Matt was trying hard not to look totally PO'd because the interview was dying and it was live. They cut to commercial pretty quickly.

However, Kwai Chang Caine did get me interested in martial arts, so that at least worked out well. :)

He is a very busy man:

Lol... When anyone goes on with Matt Lauer, they definately have to be drunk or stoned. Lol...

If I had his success, I think I would occasionally get drunk. Lol...

F.Y.I.

I haven't touch beer or hard-liquere since I was 18. Lol...

hehehe I remember the original Kung Fu series, but just barely. I liked the revamped one too, but I didnt like that the son had a new 'fling' every ep. It made that chara unbelievable and shallow.

Edit: Woooo! 800 posts! I should get a title just for this accomplishment! :D :D

I'm guessing that was for one of the Kill Bill movies. But yeah, Carradine has really gone downhill since the TV show. And to think he got the role over Bruce Lee... :roleyess: I've never seen the new series.

"When you can walk across this rice paper without leaving your footprints, then you will be ready, my young grasshopper."

I had a love/hate relationship with that series.

I loved it because it was the only martial arts tv show to watch. We would watch it then go out on the lawn and try to emulate. After many a sprained ankle and iced bruises, my mom wouldn't allow our sparring anymore.

I hated it because as a kid, it was difficult to sit for an hour and watch dialougue and dribble until the last fight scene which lasted 2minutes at the end of the show. At least, that's what it seemed like to me.

I really hated it when I found out that Bruce Lee actually created that whole character and idea of the chinaman wandering around the rustic, old west getting into situations then using his wisdom and martial arts to get himself out.

But, of course, for Hollywood, Bruce looked too chinese and didn't speak well enough, so they went with Carradine. They backdoored Bruce and stole his idea without so much as a thank you.

Can you imagine how much better that series would have been with Bruce Lee starring?

When it comes to Bruce Lee, I have never paid too much attention. Brandon Lee's career was of interest, but his dad's was not on my radar.

I think Carradine did a pretty cool job. Up until the other day, I really have not seen him around. He was advertising an Yoga instructional tape on PBS. I did notice that he couldn't answer questions with clearity. I thought it was just me, but he wasn't prepared for PBS's questions.

When it comes to tv-actors in general, I think several of them don't leave their genera. In some cases, they get hurt by not trying something new. Carradine hasn't shaken off his 'Kung Fu' characters, and I think that has hurt his longevity.

I do like the characters he plays. Maybe he will make a leap to something new. Who knows.

I'd tend to agree for the most part.. while I thought he did quite well in Kill Bill, I still couldn't help myself but wonder if he would say "Grasshopper" at any point in time

However, you know you've made an impact if an emote has mocked a TV series you've starred in ;)

Hmmm, must not have been incense that I smelled burning back in the green room after all....

I looked up his filmography, and he's certainly a busy boy.

The ones who I think really couldn't shake the image that made them famous were Larry Linville (Maj. Frank Burns) and Gary Burghoff (Cpl. 'Radar' O'Reilly) in MASH.

I can see Carradine playing other martial-arty kinds of shows and I can put away his 'Caine' character, but every time I see Linville, all I could think was 'There's Ferret-Face!'

You both make good points. Hehehe...

Yeah. Some of the MASH actors really couldn't shake off their characters. Lol...

"Carradine playing other martial-arty kinds of shows." - But it is still martial-arts.

An example, look at Van'dam. There is a French actor who plays American characters, who learns and lives in Asia. Lol... He was unable to shake off his martial-arts characters. (Not to mention drugs.)

I was going to post that same pic, but it would have stolen your thunder! :xp:

I liked both the original kung Fu and The Legend Continues... as TLC went on the actors became more relaxed in their parts and it has some really good moments.
