Cygnus Q'ol
While I am no Bear's fan. I will never forgive Mike Ditka for letting William 'the refrigerator" Perry get the rushing touchdown in Super Bowl XLI. Sweetness should have had it for all the things he put up with the Bears. But no Mike would rather do the gimmick play. Even without Big Ben tonight we should win. I expect that we will make the playoffs. However I doubt we will repeat as Super Bowl Champs. I couldn't agree with you more about Ditka's disrespectful decision. That has always left a bad taste in my mouth and I really disliked Ditka for a long time after that. I've seen an interview with Ditka after Walter passed and he said If he could do it all over again, he would do it differently. He admitted to being caught up in himself and said he regrets it. I've also seen a replay of a conversation with Walter when he was asked of how he felt about that situation and his reply was typical selfless, prideful, Walter. "Of all the things I've done in my career, if I let one play define me, then my career wasn't nothin' to begin with." It would be so nice if today's players adapted some of his work ethic and team attitude more often. As it is, the current BEARS better not get complacent in GreenBay this weekend. I would hate to have that 'any given Sunday' rule apply here. For some reason, I still sorta fear Brett Favre. I hope they get him early and often. stingerhs
Yea... I don't think the game was a complete reflection of the better QB on this occasion i don't know. something that a lot of people don't mention often was that Culpepper just hasn't been the same QB without Randy Moss lining up in WR. just look at his stats last year before his injury. he was one of the worst QB's in the league, and almost nothing was going right for him. in last night's game, he looked alright in the beginning, but he collapsed in the fourth. was it really an idication that Batch is a better QB than Culpepper?? most definately not. Batch is probably the best backup QB in the league, but i wouldn't trust him to start every game for the Steelers the way i would Culpepper or Big Ben. my earlier comment was more or less an observation based on the performances of last night's game only. I'll agree to the fact that Batch had a better game, but I also believe Culpepper is the better QB hands down, and true Randy Moss will make any QB who can throw the deep ball look better, but that doesn't degrade the fact that Culpepper is still a solid starter. True he did have a very sub-par game, reminiscent of last season, but I feel he has enough weapons there, that with time he should only improve, keep in mind he is in a new system after all. But yes, Batch was better in that game. I really don't care though, just waiting to watch my Broncos slaughter St. Louis.
RevanA4
I really don't care though, just waiting to watch my Broncos slaughter St. Louis. as long as Isaac Bruce scores a TD or 2 I don't much care the outcome. he is the only player in that game that effects my Fantasy football stats
Commander Obi-Wan
Though, Culpepper was in jured for most of last year. But, it doesn't have any star receivers either. It's the first game anyway. I think they can beat the Bills.
Mav
well I guess I was wrogn about my Broncos... 6 friggin' FG's and a stupid roughing the punter penalty, I wasn't able to actually watch the game, so I'll see if that penalty was a good call or not, I'm still pretty upset, still Denver didn't play well nor did Plummer, but it's only the first game, at least thats what I'm telling myself, but in other news... Seattle wins a defensive battle against Detroit with a last second field goal... 9-6 New England comes from behind to defeat Buffalo... 17-19 New Orleans is able to hold their lead over Cleveland to get the win... 19-14 Jets over Titans... 23-16, Baltimore shutsout Tampa Bay... 27-0, Bengals over Chiefs... 23-10, Eagles over Texans... 24-10, and Atlanta over Carolina, of note, Steve Smith did not play... 20-6,
Jeff
Seattle wins a defensive battle against Detroit with a last second field goal... 9-6That was a heartbreaker for me... But at least it showed that we can play defense with the best team in the NFC. If only our offense had shown up... Glad that the Bengals won. Too bad about Trent Green though... Jae Onasi
Yeah, Bears! A shut out??? In Lambeau???? Stomping Packers at Lambeau feels so good. First shutout for the Pack since I think '91 they said. To be fair, there were a couple of bad calls that went against the Pack, but the Bears D was pretty dominant, I don't know that it would have made any difference in the win-loss category, though they might have been able to put some points on the board. Grossman really looked good today--I was impressed. He came out and marched that offense right on down the field, making some great throws, with the WRs doing a good job of hanging on for some fantastic gains. T. Jones did a decent job running though should have gotten more yards per carry, and even Benson got some playing time. The D did pretty well, though I was surprised they didn't get a sack. How about Tillman's and Manning's interceptions and Hester's punt return for a TD, though? I loved it. The Bears controlled the game from the very start. We didn't have to put the punting unit on the field for quite some time--I thought I heard not until the 3rd quarter, but I'd have to look at the stats. In the "What the?" category--Grossman throwing into triple coverage in the endzone, and T. Jones throwing a ball back to Grossman, who as an ineligible receiver. 26-0 is a fine way to start the season.
RevanA4
The bears don't play a lot of good solid teams this year which could be thier downfall the cowboys almost won on Sunday a bunch of stupid penalties on thier D kept the Jags in the game >.< on the bright side they play the skins next week which should be an easy win for them and good for my Fantasy states with glen, TO and J. Jones on my team next week I should blow away my opponent
Commander Obi-Wan
The only game I really managed to watch was the Manning versus Manning game. The main reason why the Giants lost were because the penalties they took and that late interception didn't help.
Cygnus Q'ol
Here Here!! Jae Onasi !!! What an absolute blast it was to watch them bring in the new season with a Packer stomping. Seems fitting after what Favre has done to my boys in the last decade. ...couldn't even get close enough to kick a field goal. YESSSSSSS! The Bears actually had three sacks Sunday. Lance Briggs, Alex Brown, and Mark Anderson(rookie) all got a sack. Mark was the most exited, mentioning that Favre was a future hall of famer and to get your first sack against a player of his calibur is exiting and confidence boosting. I was also impressed and pleasantly surprised at the play of Grossman. I'm glad he could get it going to gain some confidence and get the nay-sayers off of his back. (at least for a while). Except for some minor mistakes and a couple of goofball plays, I think they did better than most expected. If they keep producing and keep improving while staying healthy, I see no reason why they can't take the division and do a little damage in the playoffs. But, that's getting ahead of myself. One game, one drive, one play at a time.

I've gloated at work at least an hour today, maybe more. One game, one drive, one play at a time. If they stay healthy....they're pegged to take the NFC North. The defense is certainly playoff caliber if they stay healthy, I'm not sure about the offense at this time. Grossman has a lot to learn. However, he has that same confidence McMahon showed in the '80's, without the cockiness. Edit: @Cygnus--yeah, it was Favre's first ever shutout. Heh. Cygnus Q'ol
^^^ Oh, so true. He's got a lot of work to do, but at least he's doing it on the field and not in a wheelchair. This game's confidence, the rest of the team's success, and Griese waiting in the wings should keep him striving to get better. I'm still impatient with the supposed two-headed running attack that has yet to develop. The Lions have a slightly better D than GreenBay, so I hope they can get that together a bit better before Sunday. I didn't make it to work on Monday. (cough, cough, wheeze...) Today, everyone's ignoring me. Can't figure it. Maybe it's my neon orange, loud, uglier then heck, bears shirt. They're acting as if I stink. I'm sure I washed it. Oh well... Oh, by the way, the last time the Pack was shut out was a crisp, autumn, October day in 1991, by guess who? ...that's right, DA BEARS. (20 to 0). Jae Onasi
DA Bears had another impressive defensive showing and Grossman is started to look alive in their 34-7 win over the Lions... _Starting_ to look alive? Four touchdown passes and 289 yards passing looks pretty darn alive to me. Lions killed themselves with penalties. The most notable was an interception run back for a TD that got overturned because one of their guys did an illegal block to the face. However, I don't believe that would have helped, because the D had them pretty well shut down. They got 3 fumbles, 6 sacks, and made Detroit put the punting unit on the field quite a bit. The O-line held Detroit and gave Grossman all the time in the world to pass, and they allowed no sacks. Grossman's buying them all steak dinners tonight, I bet. Go Bears!!! Jeff
Yeah, I was pretty diappointed with the Lions today. After a great game against Seatle last week especially on defense, they can't keep the Bears' offense from scoring At least Cincy won again. Mav
_Starting_ to look alive? Four touchdown passes and 289 yards passing looks pretty darn alive to me. I need to see some consistency, before I start to call him an elite starter, one breakout game doesn't cut it for me, but I think him and the Bears will have a good game next week against Minnesota. I will say this though, he is doing a whole hell of a lot better than Plummer, who looks like a freakin' male silverback gorilla just jumped on his back. Even though the Broncos won today I am less than satisfied with the way their offense is playing so far, and even though our defense hasn't had any touchdowns scored on them, I would really like to see them start to cause some turnovers, plain and simple we're losing the turnover battle and our offense hasn't clicked yet. They did start to show some signs of getting in a rythm late in the game, but I think they still need to show me a drive where they completely dominate the opposition, or have a huge play that turns things around for them. Even if it's just one break-away run from a Bell, or if it's Javon Walker going deep, I just think we need a spark to ignite our offense. Speaking of the Bells I think Shanahan needs to pick one to be the starter and I think Tatum should have that job, I belive he's more consistent than the rookie Mike, right now. mimartin
Well the Texans lost again. The #1 draft pick had another stellar performance with two tackles given him 5 total tackles with 4 of those being solo and no sacks for the first two games. Way better than Bush's 15 receptions for 120 yards and 21 rushes for 72 yards or Young's 10 completions for 133 yard with 1 touchdown/1 interception and 5 rushing attempts for 24 yards. Another great draft choice by the Texans. Don’t let the 24 to 43 score fool you, it was not that close. The Texans scored their three touchdowns against the Colt’s 2nd and 3rd team players. I would say at least we'd get the first pick in next year’s draft, but they'd just waste it again.

I need to sleep I agree with you 100%. I have no problem with Mario Williams and feel sorry for him too. My point is Bush and Young are part-time players and Mario Williams is a starter and only has 5 tackles. Bush would have more yards and a touchdown or two with the Texans only because he would be getting more touches with the Texans. My problem is with the Texans front office and their ability to make terrible draft picks. They said they wanted the BEST PLAYER available in the past draft. Mario Williams may have been the best defensive player available (I even question that, but I’m no expert), but anyone could tell he was not the best football player available. I didn’t want Bush, I wanted Vince Young, but that was because I’m a little partial to Texas Longhorn players (even the ones that smoke their careers away). I would have even settle for trading down just to get more draft picks. The Texans need help at every position, but receiver, just to become competitive. Jeff
You can't measure a defensive end's skill by how many tackles and sacks they make. Defensive ends in a 4-3 defense have contain responsibility so they really only have the opportunity to make tackles on outside runs.
mimartin
Very true perhaps I'm being unfair to Mario Williams. Its just he was sold to the Houston sports fans as the answer to all the Texans pass rush problems and given time maybe he will be. It just every defensive line the Texans play looks like future hall of fame players and the Texans can't get any pressure on the QB. Hopefully he'll learn to get off blocks better and not get pancaked as often. He contained no one against the Colts, but very few teams do.
