Director for Halo movie announced

Recommended Posts

the guy who made the LOTR films is making it.milo, how can you even think it could suck if hes doing it?

Hey, I don't want it to suck. I'd very much like it to be a kick-ass flick. But like Moeller said, usually movies that are based off of video games aren't too hot.

*cough*street fighter*cough*

;)

edit: hey, maybe you're right though. It might be a decent show if Peter Jackson is doing it.

whoops, I take it back.

I for one hope this Halo movie bombs and takes the video game series with it, imho Halo is the most overrated series in the history of video games. It is a mindless FPS shooter with no plot, don't get me wrong, I like FPS games, but I don't think any FPS game is as great as people say it is. Especially Halo, correct me if I'm wrong, but what is the general story, aliens are trying to kill us all, let's shoot them? Don't get me wrong I love a good FPS shooter every now and then, I'm a big BF2 guy, but I just don't see them as every being "great" in terms a gameplay and story.

Well, there was this little contract that said basicly whoever accepts has to listen to Microsoft. Meaning that Microsoft controls the movie. And Bungie controls the movie through Microsoft. So I think that it will be good. Just as long as they don't show the Master Chief's face.

So is GTA, but I don't care. I like both Halo and GTA (I don't own Halo). I doubt the Film will have the same success as the Games though.

Also like the Family Guy Avatar by the way Maverick.

I don't know about this film, I hear alot is being put into it however. It would be nice to actually put some quality in video game adaptions, and this film has the potential. There was even a rumor not long ago that Denzel may have a role in the flick.

Perhaps I sounded a bit harsh, I like Halo too, I don't have it, my cousin and some friends have it and I've played with them, but my point is Halo is way overhyped and overrated, it is still a great game definetly in the top 3 FPS games out there, but it is still overrated as a whole. What I mean is the whole Xbox franchise basically hinders on the success of Halo, a FPS. Also in my opinion FPS games are more suited for the PC and the point and click/shoot mouse. 3rd person shooters belong to the console, this is all my opinion, but I really haven't seen any well executed third person shooters for the PC. As far as Xbox and the Halo franchise, really that is there only major series, and frankly I feel it would be better suited for the PC. Where as the other companies, Nintendo and Sony have a plethora of unique franchises that define their companies. Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash, and even Pokemon has defined that company. Sony has Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Gran Turismo, even Crash Bandicoot and recent new series like Kingdom Hearts defining their role in gaming. Even Grand Theft Auto, started out with the PlayStation before branching off to all platforms. As far as GTA being like Halo as far as poor storyline (I'm assuming that is what you were comparing it to), the difference is that GTA started a whole new concept with the whole "free-roaming" type of gameplay, which numerous companies have since then attempted. Games like Getaway (which was more focused on storyline), and even Tony Hawk's franchise started to branch into a free-roaming type gameplay. However, I will agree that GTA's story is fairly lack-luster and feels like it's in the backround, but I also have that game and really enjoy it. I guess overall my opinion is very anti-Xbox, it's just I really don't see the need for the Xbox, when most of its' series are either also on the PC or better suited for the PC and anything that is better suited for consoles can be found on the other consoles on the market. Anyway, sorry for steering pretty far off-topic, but really I don't think video games make very good movies, and I don't think that games based off of movies are very good either. The only game based directly off a movie that was any good, was another great FPS in Goldeneye. Anyway, if this movie is anything like Red vs. Blue than at least it will be funny :xp:

Family Guy is definetly my favorite show of all time, I have about 4 or 5 avatars, and you can just type Mav for short if you want ;)

Haven't played Halo.

Don't know if Microsoft can break the great video games =! great movies trend, especially with an FPS like Halo. Off the top of my head the best video game made into a movie that I can think of are the Tomb Raider ones starring Angelina Jolie. IMO those movies were decent but not great.

That's because you were staring at her chest during the whole movie :xp:

The Halo franchise as a movie always sounded weird for me. The story was decent, SP was average, MP was fun (though a similar FPS, UT2k4, is so much better). I find that yet another movie about Earth defending itself against aliens...errr...works in a cheesy game, might not work in a cheesy movie.

By the way, the link doesn't work.

Halo is so awesome!

I love it, and I dont like games with no story line, and the story line is quite interesting and complex if you think about it. Its not just a case of bang bang shoot kill.

Although my friend has practically drilled it into my head the way my brother drilled star wars into my head so yea. =)

I think they should base the movie on the original game.

It looks like the page has temorarily gone missing. I'm sure they'll put it back up.

after reading the novels, the Halo movie does have some promise since there is a fairly rich backround to work with. the main reason why most video game-based movies haven't worked is because the source material was entirely based on interactivity and gaming which isn't something that translates well into a movie. i think that the Halo movie could be different since there is a lot of source material out there that isn't in the games.

reguardless of the source material available, however, its up to the writers to come up with a good story, and its up to this young director to envision the movie and then film it. its in that area that i'm the most concerned with.
