Rabish Bini
Hi, i've been planning to get a Nintedo DS, and i've been wondering, I know it also plays Gameboy Advance games, but does it also play Gameboy Colour games?
HerbieZ
Yes indeed. Because Gameboy colour games could be played on the advance!
Diego Varen
Don't fall to the dark side Akuma. The DS is evil. As far as I've heard, the DS can play GBA and GBC, but not the very original GB games, like Pokemon Red and Blue.
SithRevan
Yeah it plays all of them but if I were to go with a portable console I would either go with the PSP or a pocket pc because well... They are better trust me on this one. Oh and when you do get one you may want to think about getting the DS Lite because it is supposed to be a little better. Anyway though good luck on getting one. And the dark side?
swphreak
Yeah it plays all of them but if I were to go with a portable console I would either go with the PSP or a pocket pc because well... They are better trust me on this one. Pocket PC, no idea where that came from, but let's focus ont he PSP. Poorly designed "joystick." You're playing 3D games on this sliding joystick or whatever it is. Short battery life. Not very portable if I have to plug it in to keep playing. Price. $200 PSP vs $130 DS. Now back on topic- I traded in my DS "Phat" for the new sleek DS Lite, and I just now tried to put in a GBC game, but it wouldn't fit (I didn't want to jam it in). I never did try it with my old DS, it might work, don't know. Wikipedia says they do work, but I'd ask around. If you do get a DS, get the Lite (don't know if you can actually buy a "Phat" anymore), it's smaller than your Gameboy Color, and fits more comfortably (for me anyways). Rabish Bini
So original GB games like Pokemon red won't work, what about GBC games like Pokemon silver? StarWasrPhreak - I don't have a GBC. I have a GBA.
King Dando
From the Nintendo DS wikipedia article: The Nintendo DS is compatible with Game Boy Advance (GBA) cartridges; the smaller Nintendo DS cartridges fit into Slot 1 on the top of the system, while Game Boy Advance games fit into Slot 2 on the bottom of the system. The Nintendo DS is not compatible with games for the Game Boy Color and the original Game Boy, due to a slightly different form factor and the absence of the Zilog Z80-like processor used in these systems. So, maybe not, I don't know, although it's never crossed my mind to actually try GBC carts in a DS, I would try it with pokemon Gold, but I lost the cart several years ago
Rabish Bini
Damnit, that means I can't play my GBC games, meaning I have to keep my GBA. Although when I get my DS, I could try cramming my pokemon silver into it to see if it works.
King Dando
Well, you could try it and see anyway. As for my GBA, I've still got it, I've been waiting patiently since early 2003 for the Mother 1+2 bundle and Mother 3 to be translated into English and released in Europe. It's probably never going to happen though *cries*
Rabish Bini
Or, I could get 2 DS's. One for playing as you normally would, and one for evil genius experiments. :evil look/laugh/smile:

EnderWiggin
So original GB games like Pokemon red won't work, what about GBC games like Pokemon silver? I'm almost positive that both Pokemon Red and Pokemon Silver are both GBC games. I don't think any were on the old GC. But I also think that the DS cannot play old GBC games. _EW_
Rabish Bini
No, pokemon red ws made for the original GB, that's why practically everythiong is one colour.
King Dando
^ Yeah, Red, Blue and Yellow were GB Gold, Silver and Crystal were GBC I think thats right..

Rabish Bini
So, does anyone have a straight answer which they're 100% positive about?
King Dando
I tried putting Pokemon Blue in my DS, didn't fit, I think the GBA slot on the DS is shaped so that it takes only GBA games, whereas the actual GBA took both GB and GBC games (I used to play Gold on my GBA). So....GBC games dont work with DS, I'm still not 100% though, since I can't find any of my GBC games to test
