Darkkender
Have you considered the Portland Oregon area? I ask because the cost of living is lower than that of the big California cities or Seattle. Portland is about an hour and a half from a major Mt for sking. About 2 hours from the coast and even better about 4-5 hours from the desert. Also there are alot of companies in the high technology & computer industry out here inclusive of Graphic artist needs. Also There is no sales tax out here.
CountVerilucus
Washington! Washington state has plenty of trees, nice people, little pollution, jobs, and the Seahawks! Also there are some major industries like Microsoft. I wouldn't live in Seattle though, just dont like the city. But if I had to live in a city it would be Seattle. In my opinion the best state on the west coast and the country.
HappyMojo
England or Ireland. Even though they are not in the US they are great places to live especially Ireland. Ireland rocks - coolest people ever. (Visited Ireland in 2002) I'm danish though - The great land of doughnuts

Emperor Devon
Yeah Washington is fine too provided you stay out of Seattle and you don't mind people that can't drive. I resent that. This is all very relative - but in my opinion, Washington (and Seattle in particular) is the best place to live. The average income is a good deal higher over here than it is in most of the country, and we've got all the wonderful scenery and weather (lots of rain, and fantastic views of the water at the right spots). It's also a more "toned down" city, so to speak. I've not seen as much vandalism/homelesness/all that other bad stuff in Seattle as there is in other cities. Graphic design I don't know about, though it should be a simple matter to look up. The nearby islands in Puget Sound are great to live in if you don't like the city (which is a short boat trip away). I grew up on one of them, and it's almost unbelievable compared to some other places - people rarely locked the doors when they left their houses, or their cars. A burglar could make a killing there, though theft was a practically nonexistent problem. Not to mention the overall friendliness of the people - I never saw anyone act rude or ignore someone else while in public. A lot of the little islands in the Northwest are great. One of them was even rated the second best place to live in the country, though beware of the expensive housing. Seattle might be cheaper, though I've not looked into houses there very much. The weather is great, too. Lots of rain during the winter, and we're one of the contry's coolest places during the summer. The mid 60s or 70s are the hottest it gets, with some rare exceptions, though the downside to the weather is the nearly total lack of snow. It's pretty good in terms of population. Even Seattle doesn't have too many people, despite being the state's largest city. The economy I can't say a lot about - being a student, I've not had any long-term jobs yet. Good luck with the move! CountVerilucus
Well said Emperor, but the summers get hotter than 60s-70s i think. Weve had 80-100 degree summers.
Samnmax221
I suggest trying a suburb of St. Paul Minnesota. Way too close to Murderapolis.

Uh, I know you're into the whole "darkside" thing, but some people find all that rain kind of depressing.
CountVerilucus
Well the rain is why we have such beatiful vegitation. Plus, once you become a Washingtonian the rain dont phase you.
Emperor Devon
Weve had 80-100 degree summers. We have, though they aren't the norm. @milo, it's my favorite weather after snow. But I've lived in Washington for most of my life, so that's probably why.
Darkkender
Ahh, the Rain that is what both Oregonians and Washingtonians can agree upon. Not too mention the climate between both the states is pretty much the same. Of course the Washington & Oregon Love hate relationship stems alot from the Mini-Seattle syndrom Portland has. Of course Most true Pacific Northwesterners no matter which state they are in seem to dislike Californians.
