If you have a GameInformer subscrition, like I do, or if you pick it up every now and then. Then you would know that in the February 2007 issue (#166) on page 70-71 there are screen shots from the new expansion Elder Scrolls IV:Shivering Isles.

January 18, 2007 (Rockville, MD) — Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, today confirmed the upcoming release of The Elder Scrolls IV®: Shivering Isles™, the official expansion for the award-winning The Elder Scrolls IV®: Oblivion™. Shivering Isles will be released for Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows this Spring. Details are presented in the exclusive cover story for Official Xbox Magazine’s (US) February issue, which hits newsstands this week.

Shivering Isles features more than 30 hours of new gameplay and allows you to explore an entirely new plane of Oblivion – the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. Shivering Isles adds to the existing world of Oblivion so you can continue playing with your existing save game/character, or create an all new character just to explore the new content.

“We’re thrilled with the response that Oblivion has received to date and feel that Shivering Isles will offer a whole new and different experience to anyone who played and enjoyed Oblivion,” said Todd Howard, executive producer for The Elder Scrolls.

Within the Realm of Sheogorath, players can explore the two extreme sides of the god’s madness – the sublimely creative and the completely psychotic. Something is happening to the Shivering Isles and Sheogorath himself looks to you to be his champion and defend his realm and its inhabitants from destruction. Do you have the strength to survive his trials, tame a realm fraught with paranoia and despair, and wear the mantle of a God?

The Shivering Isles features a bizarre landscape split between the two sides – Mania and Dementia –filled with vast, twisting dungeons mirroring the roots of the trees they are buried within. You’ll encounter more than a dozen new creatures including hideous insects, Flesh Atronachs, skeletal Shambles, amphibious Grummites. Throughout your adventure, you will discover all new items, ingredients, spells, and more, and have the talented craftsmen of Crucible and Bliss forge new armor and weapons just for you.

“The enthusiastic response we’ve received to our downloadable content has been overwhelming, and we’re excited to bring Oblivion fans a full expansion,” said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. “The world we’ve created for Shivering Isles is unlike anything you’ve seen or played in Oblivion and we can’t wait for folks to play it.”

Released in March 2006 for Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows, Oblivion sold more than three million units in 2006. Among the countless awards and accolades it has garnered to date are Game of the Year and RPG of the Year honors from numerous outlets, including Spike TV’s 2006 Video Game Awards, G4’s G-phoria, the Golden Joystick Awards, GameSpot.com, ShackNews.com, Voodoo Extreme, FiringSquad.com, and many more. Oblivion received the #1 ranking on PC Gamer’s (UK) list of the top 100 games of all time and is the highest rated Xbox 360 game of all time according to Gamerankings.com.

The Windows version of Shivering Isles will be available at retail and is co-published by Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games, while the Xbox 360 version is currently planned for release through Xbox Live® online entertainment network by Bethesda Softworks. Taken from Elder Scrolls

Looks really great and fun. I literally shrieked like a school girl at a boy band concert. I am definetly buying this expansion.

To be honest, Oblivion disappointed me. I got it for Christmas and have played it about half an hour so far.

First of all it doesn't run smoothly on my machine, thanks to the high-end graphics, and second of all it's not my kind of game. Dungeons seem totally devoid of puzzles (besides from the lock-picking one) and appear to be a matter of simply fighting or sneaking your way past a garrison of enemies.

They at least deserve credit for not relying as much (if at all?) on the Orc-Dwarf-Elf-Goblin cliché world that games such as D&D and Warcraft insist on clinging to.

Sure it's realistic, but that removes some of the fun. The lord of madness's realm ought to have nice n' crazy fantasy stuff.

Plus D&D doesn't have to be like that, just house-rule it.

Have you tried "Oldblivion"?

Oh man... I've put maybe 70 or 80 hours into Oblivion, not nearly as much as some people, and I haven't even gotten most of the main quest done, I still have a long way to go in that respect, but this video DEFINITELY makes me want to go back and pick it up.

I can't wait!

Nasty things, those mudcrabs.

I feel like installing oblivion again with mods, but I fancy a real RPG at the moment. Level-scaling the enemies was a huge dissapointment while playing the game. Finished main/mage/Dark brotherhood quests, thieves was bugged so I couldn't do the last one. So I reckon I'll play it again in a while and if I like it again pick up shivering isle.

Any mods you recommend?

You must, MUST play Oblivion with the OOO mod. Seriously, it goes a long way in making Oblivion what it should have been. It fixes so many things - like the level scaling of enemies. One of my favorite things that it does is add thousands of unique items to the game (something that Oblivion severely lacked).

Something still needs to be done about the fact that almost all the dungeons are the same.

Mods that should accompany the OOO mod are as follows:

Elven Map

Natural Environments

Keychain

BTMOD

Better Gold (just makes gold look a lot better but I like it) :haw:

And I'm looking into a vampire mod right now.

Sam Fisher is quite interested in this, but I'm having trouble playing Oblivion and probably won't play this expansion. The spells aren't cool enough, and my favorite characters are spellcasters. :(

If you ask me, the spells are extremely cool (invisiblity, floating, destruction, conjuration, etc), they just aren't animated or shown off at all, if that makes any sense. For instance, every fire spell looks exactly the same. There are mods that mess with this, but I haven't downloaded them.

I'm in no way suggesting that there be no fantasy at all. Just that they get creative instead of re-using the Tolkien cliché for the umpteenth time.

Not that I know they have, I notice some new creatures like Nords, the humanoid cats, whatever.

Bah, bear with me, I've only played for an hour or so:o.

That may be, but it's predecessor, Morrowind, had much more fantasy(See mushroom tree pic) and was heavily modable. I can even show you screenies of my character if you like.

Also, the cat people are Khajiit's.

Sam, for a second I thought you meant the actual Splinter Cell character :p
No, not quite. Heh. Though he's been absent from LF for quite some time...

That's what I meant. There's no feeling of awesome when you play spellcaster and watch the rain of fire pour down on your helplessly gibbering enemies.

And that's because there IS NO RAIN OF FIRE! Just the little fireball thing and maybe an explosion that's over before you even get to see it... :(
