Commander Obi-Wan
I love how well the Yankees are doing this year. XD The Blue Jays are on and off at the moment. They recently got Halladay back, so it is looking better. We just need our bats to wake up. Specifically, Vernon Wells.
Commander Obi-Wan
The Blue Jays just won over the Colorado Rockies who were hot before they faced the Blue Jays. And the Blue Jays swept the Rockies and now they are .500 (37-37). Vernon Wells started it all up in the third with a 3-Run Homer. Later, Frank Thomas crushed his 499th career blast. But, the big story is Dustin McGowan. He pitched a complete game, allowing one hit and walking one batter and striking out seven. He gave up the first and only hit with no outs during the top of the ninth. So close, yet so far.
Jeff
Kenny Rogers certainly had a strong return for Detroit which was good to see. And Detroit impressively swept Atlanta, finishing off the series tonight with a 5-0 shutout. Detroit is in first place with a 44-29 record. CG Shutout! He didn't even let them sniff the ball, much less hit it. I look for Detroit to be there near the end. Are the Yankees done yet? Prince Fielder for President !!! VOTE NOW OK, not for president, but definately to beat out that Pujols guy.
mimartin
Prince Fielder for President !!! VOTE NOW OK, not for president, but definitely to beat out that Pujols guy. He got my vote, well at least for starting National League first baseman. Not a lot of Astros taking up my vote this year. I only did a write in vote for Hunter Pence as Astro and All-Star are polar opposites this year. With the Astros at 32 up and 43 down baseball season is pretty much over for me. Now I know how Cub fans feel every year. The only thing I’m excited about is Biggio reaching 3000 and he should get there this week. How many more days till football starts? I’m having a tough time with the Yankees, I want Roger Clements to lose because of how he treated the Astros, but then again he is a formers Texas Longhorn great…definite mixed emotions. Jae Onasi
Woo! Go Cubs! We need to gain some ground in the NL Central. Edit: You know, when I posted the above, the score was 5-2 for the Brewers. Final score: Cubs 6, Brewers 5. Cygnus, you have to listen to WGN at some point (probably tomorrow morning) to hear Pat Hughes calling the home run and Ron Santo (the color guy) just going nuts hollering in the background. It was such a Santo moment.
Cygnus Q'ol
What a series. The Cubbies gained a game on the crew, but it seemed like the playoffs or something. These two really go at each other. I love it. I was riding high Friday night right up until the bottom of the 9th with a runner on and down by one. Aramis Ramirez, Walkoff? AHHHH! I almost soiled myself. Saturday, they took it out on that poor rookie 13 to 4. They should've saved some of those runs for Sunday as the Cubbies promptly returned the favor. Soriano is becomming a pain in my, er, well, you know. He's always on base and he always seems to get home, one way or another. Still, alot of season left. It's anyone's division. They meet again in August, I think. I have a feeling these two ain't done yet.
Jae Onasi
Awesome series. As usual, for the most part high-scoring on one or both teams' parts. It's always a run-fest with these two, and fun to watch.
Commander Obi-Wan
Anybody want to congratulate the Philadelphia Phillies? It's quite a feat when you can be the first sports time of all-time to lose 10,000 games. They lost the St. Louis Cardinals last night, 10-2. In the 124 years that they have been in professional baseball in the MLB, they have only made the playoffs nine times and have only won one World Series (1980). Mind you, nine of the times they have made it to the playoffs, they reached the World Series five times. But, it won't be too long before teams like the Atlanta Braves reach the infamous milestone. The Braves are next, they have 9,681 losses all-time.
mimartin
I really like the way the Phillies fans seemed to embrace their new record. They were really terrible during their first ¾ of existence, but they do have a World Championship and as you pointed out they’re five out of five in reaching the World Series. I would trade being mediocre for a Championship and five appearances even if it meant losing 10,000 games. I just hope the Astros win a World Series before they get close to 10,000 losses. I’d like to be alive to see either. Forget how old the Braves are with all their moving around. Can't believe the Cubs sweeped the Astros. Well there is always next year. Commander Obi-Wan
Whoa, ****, I made a mistake in my post, it should "nine of the times they have made it to the playoffs, they reached the World Series five times." That's completely my fault, sorry about that. Speaking of the Cubs, I think they are third on that list with the most losses all-time in the MLB with 9398 losses. mimartin
Still I'd take 5 out of 9 any day. The Astros won their first playoff series just a few years ago and only made the Series once. Even then they were swept by that other Chicago team. Speaking of the Cubs, I think they are third on that list with the most losses all-time in the MLB with 9398 losses. If they only played the Astros they might never get there.
Jae Onasi
Go Cubs! Amazing--Lou has a meltdown (of many) and gets ejected, the summer version of Carlos Zambrano finally shows up, and then Michael Barrett is traded, and suddenly we have a winning team and have caught up to 3 1/2 games out. Cygnus Q'ol
And the Astros are now tied for worst. How much longer till the real reasons starts. There is Football season and tie me over till football starts again season. at least this year NOOOOOOOO!!! Football season is that subtle reminder that summer is nearly over. Although I love football, I'm not ready to start thinking autumn-ish. The boys of summer are still in their element. Let's not rush it. Of course, I'm only saying this cause my team is still in contention. The Blue Jays haven't been fairing much better. What the hell happened to Roy Halladay??? It's just past mid-season. He'll get it goin'. The guy's got skills. He just needs some run support. I'm not a big Redsox fan, however, I absolutely loved the cosmic irony of that championship season they had a few years ago when they came back from O-3 against the Yanks to win it all. That was magical, baseball lore type stuff.

Cygnus Q'ol
I never understood baseball. You would if you grew up playing it and idolizing great players during your childhood. When I was 10, I wanted to be Rod Carew. We use to see how much dirt we could kick up while picking up grounders. Once Pete Rose unveiled the headfirst slide, my parent's dentistry bill increased dramatically. Baseball, as American as apple pie. ...and Sushi. mimartin
Once Pete Rose unveiled the headfirst slide' date=' my parent's dentistry bill increased dramatically.[/quote'] All parent dentistry bills increase. Personally I've always been a feet first spikes slightly elevated kind of slider. You may get me out, but you were going to pay for it. Speaking of Pete Rose I saw him signing autographs a couple of months ago in Vegas. He looks old and when is he going the change that Brady Bunch looking hair cut? I also wonder if Vegas is the best place for him to be signing autographs? Has anyone watched the HBO sports special on the Dodgers? It was sad, but it has gotten me back in the baseball sprit. At least I know other fans have suffered more than I have for their love of the game.
