Rogue15 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 hey just thought i'd let everyone here in on something i'm looking for a new job! walmart has outlived its usefulness to me, i got a decent raise this summer, and now they're wanting to let the computers at home office schedule me for under 40 hours, when i just got hired on as full-time 40 hours a week a few months ago. This will not be tolerated, so this week, I am submitting several applications, asking for no less than $11 an hour. I don't have anything to lose, because i'm not quitting walmart until I actually get hired somewhere else that will pay me more-even if it is under 40 hours a week. My first application was to Geek Squad at best buy as an in-store pc technician, also applied for the delivery driver position. I think the second application will go to circuit city, but I need to drive there, as there is no online application. I'm looking for a specific job this time, whereas, when I moved here, I was only getting walmart job to get my foot in the door (rent, bills, etc needed paying), now that i'm kinda settled, i can start being picky and looking for a job that has me fixing computers and techy stuff. If that fails and i don't get a job as a pc tech by march....i'll probably call a military recruiter and see if i can get a job like it through them. so, while i put this new thread up in Aresen, let's discuss what jobs we've been through in the course of our stay here! I've been: pizza hut cook, army recruit, amish furniture packer guy, listerine distribution assembly line worker, high school custodian/janitorman, photo lab specialist, and again, pizza hut cook (but i quit that job for good !) what's everyone else been?
Cmdr. Cracken Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Movie theater supervisor, Coffee shop attendent, McDonald's worker, McDonald's Manager, Best Buy Sales associate. Not many, and all but the last one sucked.
Rogue15 Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 you worked at a coffee shop? i never knew that. i do remember your "rant" when you left the theatre though. glad best buy is working out for you.
Dark Sad Shadow Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 mmmmm maybe... a Dinosaur hunter... good luck finding "work orders"
swphreak Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I worked at a movie theater. Pretty cushy job :-/ The free movies made up for the crappy minimum wage, though. Now I work as a contractor for the IT department I work at. Mostly dealing with tape backups.
Kuuki Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 well i'm in the neck of the woods of 10mo and 3 days left of my current enlistment. I got to start thinking if i want to keep going or not...
edlib Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 In high school I worked as an usher/ concession stand monkey/ clean-up crew troglodyte at the local cineplex. After graduation, I was a shop jockey at Pedulla Guitars. When that job ended, I just did a series of random woodwork/ cabinet making/ interior and exterior house painting for a couple of years. Hated it. Once I decided to get off my ass and got accepted to college, I took 2 full time retail jobs to earn money: The 3 to 11 shift at Bradlees; and the midnight to 8 am stocker shift at Shaw's supermarket. Oh... and the whole time this was going on, I was playing in bands. Usually losing money at it!.. but that was never really the intent... Once in college, I took a job as an usher at the college's concert hall (where I work now.) That moved into a stage-crew light and sound tech gig after a couple of months. That led to a lot of freelancing tech gigs. Also, a summer position as a maintenance worker at one of the city's large outdoor concert venues. Did that 3 summer's in a row. After graduation, I took the gig as chief engineer/ tech guy on the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Promotional Tour Bus. (It only lasted 3 months... but it was a very LOOOOOOONG 3 months!) After that: more freelancing, and some part-time/ on-call work for a local sound co. Became one of the regular engineers at a local jazz club. Finally, I was hired back on full time by my alma mater, as a stage manager/ concert engineer for all the small recital halls. I eventually worked my way up into being the A1 tech at the main concert hall, which is where I find myself today. Any questions?
Cmdr. Cracken Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I thought you did freelance Bounty Hunting in there, ed..... did you lie to me?!
edlib Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 That's classified... The rest of these folks don't have clearance enough to be in on that.
GUNNER Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Well for the past 20+ years now I have worked at the same old place. Boeing Commercial airplanes. I have had about 7 different jobs here but for the past 11 or so I have been a CNC skin mill operator. Plus I am also the #1 stallion in my home. We are hiring too.
Dark Sad Shadow Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 wtf..? hiring on what?? on being stallions? o gawd!
Rogue Renegade Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I'm job hunting too. Applied for 17 different jobs and waiting for a call back.
Rogue15 Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 well i only ever did that 1 application. they didn't even call me. -_- i'm gonna move my stuff into storage and some of the stuff into my parents' place, then move back with them until i can get back in the army.
