We ended up pulling through. Everything will be fine in the long run. It doses s#$k though.

Jae Onasi
Don't sweat it. You'll be fine. This is probably not one of the more sensitive remarks that can be made.... If you had a school shooting only an hour away, you would be very much concerned, I'm sure. Unfortunately, in societies that have increased easy access to firearms, we're going to see things like that happen. Happily, major shootings like this are extremely rare. The shooters in the high school shootings in the US were often times victims of bullying and had some mental health issues on top of that. They didn't have an appropriate outlet for that anger. One thing any of us can do is be aware of bullying when it happens and make the teachers or principals aware of it--that can even be done anonymously if you want by dropping off a note in the office if you're worried that someone might give you trouble for turning them in. Bullies are very adept at making sure adults don't see what they're doing. There's not a lot else any of us can do except recognizing that someone doing something weird or being bullied might need help, and then getting the attention of people who can give that help. Yar-El
We did? I don't think we've ended school violence yet, Yar-El. _EW_ I guess that is a matter of perspective. No, we have not ended school violence; however, we do get through the initial emotional impact. We attempt to make schools better, and in some ways we have deterred even more extreme versions of violence from happening. We could connect this to our rights to carry guns. Could we have prevented these shootings by arming teachers or school guards? Most of the school shootings occured in a no gun zone.

You could even go so far as to restrict the amount of ammunition sold.

Saber-Scorpion
the thing is that the guy who did this was 20-22 he was very social and had many friends and he talked about getting revenge on his school well anyway the things that disturbs is that some school shooting is just because they become inspired by those who did it before them and another thing how are they supposed to get peace on earth i shall say what some in my class did when we talked about it in class they said this: they wanted him to survive so he could get punished come on people we got enough pain and hate in this world if you want to punish someone for that well i can't blame then how are we even supposed to be near anything as not fighting when we always want to punish each other

I'm not impugning the Second Amendment, but if no one owned an assault rifle, there'd be no need to have such heavy weaponry to defend yourself. If someone is decked out in armor, a 9mm bullet is not gonna hurt the guy.

Litofsky
Maybe you should be. That amendment had militias in mind, not my grandma with a semi-automatic pistol. True. But wasn't it that Jefferson that said the only time we should need the Second Amendment would be when "they" tried to take it away? Again, I'm all for restricting it, but I still think that we should be allowed to protect ourselves.

If you had a school shooting only an hour away, you would be very much concerned, I'm sure. I live two miles away (10 minutes) from the Westroads mall where that crazy teenager killed 9 people with an assualt rifle. Also, three neighboring houses around my house has been burglerized in the past year. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy says on the front cover "Don't panic"... Therefore, I'd advise everyone to have the philosophy 'don't panic'. And also to praise the almighty # 42.

Rifles or shotguns work just as well. I use to live up northern New Hampshire. We had to protect ourselves from wild animals. Damn bears!

True, but, theoretically, prohibiting selling bulletproof armor to the general public would be the solution. Or perhaps having no guns at all? But that's a topic for the Supreme Court. Unless any of us plan to put a motion through that'll considerably alter the Second Amendment, then its a moot point. Oh no, I was only boasting. Rifles or shotguns work just as well. I use to live up northern New Hampshire. We had to protect ourselves from wild animals. Damn bears! Cursed humans for invading on the bears' space!
