Canderis Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Well 2 days ago trigger god taught me how to model (hurray!) so I decided to make a saber WIP, however I can't map them. I would like to ask if someone who can UV map would like to join me in this "USM" for KotOR. Here are my (better) models. Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show)
Canderis Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Update: A whopping 5744 polly double bladed hilt Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show)
Sithspecter Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 ^That's really too many polies. You're going to have a hard time mapping it if you have never mapped, and a hard time finding someone who is willing to map that. Seriously, you only need an 8 to 10 sided tube for decent effect.
Canderis Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 I had a 10 sider, I also finished mapping it and texturing it, it was really quite easy...
DarthJacen Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Maybe you can use my blade mod to enhance your package? If you think, that would be cool, let me know, I'll say yes. And don't forget some short lightsabers!
Canderis Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Textured! Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show)
Trench Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I'm liking this mod already! That saber hilt is making me jealous of the in-game characters (that and the fact that they actually have lightsabers). Man, if someone could model that in real life, and add some wooden 'blades' they could make a lot of money (starts getting really wild ideas). Um... I'll be right back...
DarthParametric Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Given that there is already a USM of sorts for K1 in the works (here), you may want to consider pooling your efforts with that project. The project's originator Darth Ravage asks for hilts in the first post. Also, as has already been stated, your poly density is far too high. A triangulated mesh of around about 1000 polys (for a single bladed hilt) is what you want to aim for. A party all dual wielding 5K poly sabers would pose problems for a lot of users.
Canderis Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Is there a way to remove pollys after the hilt is already finished?
DarthParametric Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 There are, but it would most likely be much easier to model it again from scratch. Once you get the hang of it you'll find you can model a hilt in very short order. It's the mapping that takes a lot of time.
Canderis Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 I made that hilt in about 20 min. It is very easy (and addicting once you learn how)
Malxados Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Lookin good so far. You may wanna consider makin a double saber that doesn't look like two lightsabers super glued together though . I still can't figure out why saber hilts are so popular... EDIT: BELOW: I wasn't saying it was a bad idea/model, I was just saying I recommend making another double saber that looked different
DarthJacen Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Darth Maul had one with two lightsabers together, and Assajj Ventress's can attach and detach them at will.
Canderis Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 You may wanna consider makin a double saber that doesn't look like two lightsabers super glued together though . I still can't figure out why saber hilts are so popular... Well the thing is I have a single and double version. So you can use a double and then switch to a single.
DarthJacen Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Well the thing is I have a single and double version. So you can use a double and then switch to a single. Oldflash made a similar mod with Darth Maul's lightsaber. You can find it here. Are you doing a similar mod where you can press a button and *PUFF* it changes from single to double and vice versa.
Canderis Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 Update: Well here's a new hilt, textured although I might still make some changes to the texture. Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) I am going to re-model my first hilt to save pollys and cut it from 3000 pollys to around 1000
Tobirulz Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Basic but very nice, hav you thought of colours to use?
Canderis Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 Sabers are generally metallic colors. Well on my re-done saber I am just about done with the UV map. I will have a pic of it textured tomorrow.
Canderis Posted June 10, 2009 Author Posted June 10, 2009 Update: Well as promised heres the re-done and textured first hilt. I call it "Deathbringer" Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show)
DarthJacen Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Wow, with that kind of a name, I'd put some more sithy elements on it because it looks like both Jedi or Sith could use it, currently.
DarthJacen Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Maybe you should do what Samuel L. Jackson did and write "B.M.F" on the hilt. I can't repeat the acronym on this forum, but think Shaft.
Salzella Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I thought it was "B.A.M.F.", or at least it was in Pulp Fiction. PS that is the most awesome idea I have heard in some times. subtle, but hilarious
