steven Posted June 14, 2009 Share Posted June 14, 2009 After a century of world wide peace and technological growth, the world is brought to its nears by a series of deadly earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Whilst some celebrated the begining of 2300, others died at the hands of natural disasters. An investigation run by the worlds most intelligent people showed that as years of continental drift, something was forcing the tectonic plates into reverse. Not only would that cause the countries to collide together and resemble what they looked like in the prehistoric age, it would cause an abundance of deadly gas locked in the core of the Earth. The gas would suffocate the Earth and the planet would be no longer fit for human existence. Predictions showed that they had thirty years left, so it was decided by the united nations that humanity would retreat from their world and make their home somewhere else amongst the stars. Humanity built several large construction yards in orbit and in each one vast sleeper ships were constructed, each was designed to support 500,000,000 people. Earth's population was shipped inside stasis pods, where they'd be frozen in time so they could survive their lengthy trip. Once the construction was complete, the human civilization was packed into their sleeper ships and began a vast journey that would take millions of years to complete. Your story begins fifty years after your sleeper ship took off. You are aboard the Hastings, the sleeper ship that carries the people of the United States, Canada and Europe. You are amongst a small group of the crew that are design to wake from your stasis pods at several points during the trip and inspect the ship. Though it is maintained by robots, they are designed to repeat the same set of tasks and don't do too well to change. The only intelligence that maintains the ship is it's AI Barry. Your job, whilst being guided by Barry, is to check around the ship to make sure the robots are in working order and make sure nothing endangers the life of the crew. This rpg is designed to poke fun at science fiction and should be a good laugh. During the course of the game I will control Barry and be the game master, placing obstacles in your way. These obstacles will range from faulty droids to mutated monsters, and once you overcome the problem, you shall be placed in stasis so that a new obstacle can be given time to form. However, due to his own miscalculations, the team believed they had more time to work, and thus, failed. Feeling responsible for what had happened, James feels compelled to make amends, and put his skills to use within one of the sleeper ships. For example, an heir to a billion-dollar fashion line would undoubtedly go to work in the fashion industry, right? Well, perhaps with any other family. But the Bell family was no ordinary family, and so Alisa Bell was encouraged to do whatever the hell she wanted to. And she became a skilled pilot with just a dash of engineering knowledge to round it out. Alisa was placed on the crew of the Hastings because of her knowledge of piloting a ship and of the mechanics behind doing so properly. While he excelled at programming, he always wanted to be a music artist. Ufortunately, the impending disaster crushed his dreams for the time being. Aiden has a quiet personality until you get to know him, and then he will open up to you and likes to talk. He has always been a hopeless romantic and enjoys a good laugh. He joined the Marine Expeditionary Unit and became a Combat Engineer. He loves to tinker with things, learning how they tick, and it's not limited to machines. He's compiled a mental list of ways to get people to talk, and he gets the info. Sam was part of the Combined-Force Operation that created the massive life ships, which he affectionately dubbed the " World's Largest Lifeboat". This has meant that he has numerous biological enhancements among these his eyes have been enhanced to higher than 20-20 vision as well as having excellent night vision (perfect for working on sleeper ships similar to Riddick's eyeshine.) Though the downside of this is that he is a loner prefering to work alone as he has been ridiculed for being a 'freak' since he was a child, as genetic enhancements are outlawed. He likes the computer AI as Barry talks to him as if he is a normal person. He is relatively strong despite not looking like it and can fix mostly anything even if it is a bit hackjob as he didn't recieve any extensive training and was a last minute addition to the ships crew complement as other ships rejected him he holds no rank but due to his skills he has been chosen to assist in the maintenance. Being a time of world peace, there wasn't a large need for soldiers and if Ben wanted to carry on as a soldier he would have to join a private military company which would mean he could never legally return to Britain. Whilst searching for a new job, he was approached by MI 32, an British Intelligence that was dedicated to ensuring the world peace by investigating political candidate that could cause problems and secretly remove them from politics or even life. This job filled the void between the end of the Royal Marines and the moments the disasters struck. Once it was clear the world was about to end, MI 32, like all of its sister agencies were disbanded and reformed into Hasting Security Council, the agency that supervised the safety of the crew. Ben was chosen to command the Inspection Squad, believing his command and combat skills developed as a Marine would serve well to pull the group through. The two have never really been close thanks due to her parents divorce early on in her life. Sandrine's mother took full custody of her and Jean didn't really do much to stop this from happening. Sandrine only saw her father during Christmas and some date close to her birthday, however this was because Jean was the commander of the last battleship in the NATO fleet, rest of the fleet had been decommissioned and "recycled". Jean was chosen as Captain because it was believed in case of an emergency, he could be awoken from his sleep and command the ship through survival. His only demand is that is daughter be brought aboard the Hastings and kept in the VIP section of the sleeper ship, however because she was a skilled doctor and a former Surgeon, she was chosen by Ben to serve as the Inspection Squad's medical expert and medic. And in relation to your message to Darth B you didn't state that they were selected based upon their skills by the government you just said that they were built to contain earths population, so everyone thought anyone can be on the ship. Thanatos9t Posted June 16, 2009 Share Posted June 16, 2009 It depends on who made the choice whether it was some overseeing government that would probably explain the larger military contingent of the maintenance crew or the selection could have been made by the AI Barry based upon relevant field experience such as field of expertise or physical/mental condition.
