Sonic Series

Now I know some of you don't like Sonic the Hedgehog, but I do. I'm going to summarize the series the best i can for those who know little to nothing about Sonic. Read if you want. Back in 1991, the first Sonic Game was created in 2d. In my opinion, it was a great start. It managed to capture the attention of thousands of gamers. And the next ones started to get better:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Sonic and Knuckles

Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Sonic 3d Blast

and much more

The best of that was S3 & K, because it was two games in one, you had multiple modes, plus it had a save game utility which no other had. Also, it introduced a new form for Sonic, but I think it was a bit overpowered.

Sonic 3D blast was the first 3D game, but critics say it was terrible. People could not get past the first level, and they thought the original concept was much better. So in the late 1990s, Sonic Team totally redesigned Sonic and his world. The models became more recognizable to today's models.

In 1999, the first "official" sonic 3D game was released, Sonic Adventure. It was much better than 3D blast. And after came SA2 in 2000. After that they went dormant to about 2004/05 when they released Sonic Heroes, but that is when they started to lose concept of what should have been. The technical effects were improving, but the stories were degenerating. Shadow the Hedgehog was one of these games, and got bad reviews. Some say it was unorganized and it took a long time to do all the stories. Such is and RPG game. They also said that there was no telling of what was true and what was not.

So the next generation games like STH 06 got average reviews, but not as good as the original 3d games. New casting for the characters kind of confused players. Its overall rating was 4.7-5.3. The next game, Sonic Unleashed, varied. It introduced a new playable concept of Sonic, a power type. But a lot of people had trouble with it. They said the regular sonic levels were well designed, but night was super hard, and took long periods of time. Then, when the Storybook series of Sonic Came out, people did not even bother to take a look at them. Personally, I thought they sucked. Every cutscene was just pages, no animation or anything, its like the developers did not even give it a shot.

So, after Sonic & the Black Knight, Sega went dormant, again. Lately, I hear of a new 2D sonic game coming out, maybe it will be better than the recent ones. We can only hope.

TV Series: Many sonic the hedgehog series have aired since the first game, but not many are known well. The most recent one was Sonic X. In North America, the show Sonic X is aired by 4Kids TV. Of course, they cut out a lot of content which they think is not appropriate for kids. Personally, I think that show should have been on Cartoon Network or something other than 4Kids, as they have a record for screwing up everything. The Japanese Dub contains all the original content, but a lot do not like it due to the language issue.

Many do prefer the Japanese Dub because it is more suited for all ages, not just kids. Still, the English dub is not bad, but it is not the best either. But thats my opinion.

Behind the Scenes: Sega and Nintendo have been competing with each other since the beginning. When the Mario and Donkey Kong series was created, gamers prefered Nintendo. In 1990, Sega created the concept of Sonic the Hedgehog, codename: Mr. Needlemouse. They also design the original Eggman. However, some characters that were imagined never made it into the series, or were mentioned with little reference. Since a lot of the Sonic Games have got bad reviews these days, Sonic Team, the developers of the Sonic Series, have pretty much disappeared. Fans wonder if Sonic will ever be back to the original glory back in the 90s and early 2000s.

Well, thats my summarization. I would like to ask what you guys think of the game series?

Icecap Zone has the best music in all of 16-bit video gaming. That is all. :carms:

These new sonic games should die in a giant fire. IMO, if it doesn't have 2 dimensions, hundreds of loopdeloops and springs in each act, its not a true sonic game.

A while back I tried those Sonic Adventure games (gamecube ports, mind you. Never owned a DC), and I thought they were all right, but not the same quality that the originals had. I rented Sonic Heroes, and I hated it. I couldn't figure out why, but I hated it. Shadow the Hedgehog was meh even for a spin-off where a super powered hedgehog from space used guns and stuff to kill everyone. Which was basically the premise of the entire plot.

I also don't like the Sonic X show, for the same reason I don't like Sonic Heroes. The ORIGINAL sonic the hedgehog cartoons were beast though. You can't get much better than this:

Sonic was good back in the day, but he should've stayed back in the day... or at least the people who have been making the sucky games in the Sonic series should be taken out the back of the Sega HQ and shot.

The cycle nowadays is...

New Sonic game announced => hype => more hype => even more hype! => game comes out => people play the game and find it sucks => hopeful fans wait for the next game...

Rinse and repeat.
