Not sure if anyone here is a fan of Dead Space (or Horror/Survival for that matter).. but I loved the game. A new trailer for Dead Space 2 is out.. "Reveal"! Caught it on Xbox last night and nearly went in to "schoolgirl" mode

Doesn't really show any game play or anything.. but kewl nonetheless. Can't wait for this game to come out :D

It's a nice thing they're doing a sequel despite the claims that the first game was a financial letdown. The first DS and Mirror's Edge were the first signs that EA was about to change from a rather conservative company, used to rehashing their series, to something new and better.

At any rate, I liked the first one and I'm probably not skipping the sequel.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Dead Space. Even though it is a sort of clone of Resident Evil, it had enough uniqueness to keep the player interested and I will definitely be playing it once it comes out on PC. :)

They aren't making it for the PC, so I'm naturally disinterested. The original was meh any way.

They are, as far as I know.

I absolutely love Dead Space, it's one of my most favourite games of this generation. I remember a thread in The Swamp where people were saying it's like Resident Evil 4 + Metroid Prime... and they were pretty spot on. With this, I actually ended up getting it for Christmas. So glad I got it cause aside from the co-op element of Resident Evil 5, it wasn't really doing much for me... Dead Space on the other hand provided me with better controls, a more interesting setting, and despite what Sabre has said, a more interesting story... after all, this is a "horror movie" type game, since when have these things ever had anything more than mediocre stories?

Also, I thought they did finally confirm Dead Space 2 for PC at the PAX East thing. Though I can't understand why people would want to play this game on PC in the first place :carms:

Oh and also, shameless plugs :p I wrote up some stuff on...

...because I like to mindlessly prattle on about Dead Space XD

Clive Barker's Undying, all the games in Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos, American McGee's Alice (though its horror status is debatable), the Penumbra series, F.E.A.R. was alright for what its worth, and Metro 2033.

It can be done, but most people want to make a committee-designed horror game and sell it for cash while calling it different from everything else. In Dead Space I saw a plethora of tired horror tropes I've seen over and over for the past two decades.

Though my real beef was with the bad port: the mouse was laggy and hitting the resume button on the main menu broke your save.

Because the mouse+keyboard setup always beats joysticks and joypads. :p

Never had any of those problems, or problems of any kind, but I guess it depends on the system. :(

@ igyman: I liked being able to control Isaac and the camera at the same time with ease. Also, it's more fun to have the RE4 tankish style controls done with an analog stick.

@ sabre: Good. I like the ye old horror stuff, it's classic. Just as long as it isn't one of those teen horror movies. It may have been done before, but it was done well, and it's one of the few games that actually makes good use of a 5.1 sound system.

And yeah, I agree that the PC port of Dead Space is horrible. The PC version has a lot of lighting differences which changes the game completely from the console versions...

Well, I guess it depends on personal preference.

As for the PC version of Dead Space, the only problem I had with it was that I couldn't redefine the movement keys from WASD to Arrow Keys, but I solved that one rather quickly, otherwise, the game was pleasantly refreshing, despite elements borrowed from Doom, RE and Half-Life.

There's an interesting tie-in between TSL and Dead Space: Downfall . . .

The voice actors for Visas Marr (Kelly Hu) and Grey DeLisle (Handmaiden/Master Vash/Handmaiden's Sisters.)

I know there's not a huge following of the game/series.. but curious if anyone is frothing at the mouth (like me) come this Tuesday the 25th? Or did you pre-order? ;)

Can't wait.

I'll definitely be playing it, most likely sometime next week. I'm upgrading my PC tomorrow (after almost 3 years :D) and then I'll probably replay the original Dead Space before trying out the new one.

LOL!

I've pre-ordered the collector's edition for the 360 version... I'm a HUGE fan of dead space... so can't wait XD

wow.. that's sweet looking! :D Where did you pre-order from? or does all the collector's edition have the force gun exclusive download? All I've been able to find is the one with the rivet gun or the hacker armor (might just be the nornal pre-order though)...

I preordered it through EB Games down here in Australia (EB still exists down here cause we never had the GameStop brand down here).

The 360 and PC versions come with the replica Plasma Cutter + Unitology suit and Force gun, but the PS3 version comes with Dead Space Extraction and the Rivet Gun instead of the replica Plasma Cutter. As far as I know, the Unitology suit + force gun are available for all collector's edition versions of the game.

Actually it's specifically the oldskool design Plasma Cutter... they have a newer version of the Plasma Cutter in Dead Space 2 which works pretty much the same way as the old one but is just a newer model, so smaller and has a more sleek design.

Also, don't forget this: Dead Space 2 includes code for 'Ser Isaac of Clarke' armor in Dragon Age 2

Well after playing it straight for 4 completions (and loving every minute of it).. finally had to break away from it before I got sick of it. Worth every penny imo and I'm sure to revisit it in the near future ;)

On a sidenote.. not sure if anyone has been watching the Dead Space 2 "Your Mom Hates It" advertising series, but they brought 2 of the moms back for some hands on action. Great vid
